Fox with Rabies Attacks Two in the Catskills

As summer vacation begins and a large portion of the community makes their way upstate, Sullivan County Public Health Services is advising the public to stay away from wild animals and be vigilant of your surroundings while camping, hiking or playing in area parks near wooded areas. A grey fox that bit two people in the Town of Thompson has tested positive for rabies, and the individuals are being treated.

An Angel in the Supermarket

It was Friday, on a balmy spring morning, and I was standing in line at the checkout counter in Rockland Kosher Supermarket. My cart was overflowing with groceries which would add up to a pretty penny. I was, however, the grateful recipient of food stamp benefits, and one swipe of my precious plastic card would cover the cost of my bimonthly food shopping trip. Nonetheless, I had chosen carefully, scanning the sale aisle for bargains, wanting to make the most of the government’s assistance. I loaded my items onto the counter and waited patiently for the cashier to add them up.

Report: Lubavitcher Drowned in White Lake – Body Found

WHITE LAKE, NY [CHI] — Reports are indicating that a man that drowned in White Lake earlier this afternoon is a Lubavitcher Bochur from Crown Heights. According to rescue personal the unidentified man was boating out on the lake, and after jumping in he never resurface. and intensive search is currently underway.

Sullivan County’s Walmart Beefs-Up Kosher Section

MONTICELLO — First, Walmart conquered the Main Street market of hardware and underwear.

Now the retail giant is going after another market — the Catskill kosher market of gefilte fish and blintzes.

The Monticello Walmart just ran a full-page ad touting “expanded selections” in its “new kosher fresh section for the summer 2010.” It’s added kosher products like Empire organic chicken and Teva Angus beef sliders.
