Fox with Rabies Attacks Two in the Catskills

As summer vacation begins and a large portion of the community makes their way upstate, Sullivan County Public Health Services is advising the public to stay away from wild animals and be vigilant of your surroundings while camping, hiking or playing in area parks near wooded areas. A grey fox that bit two people in the Town of Thompson has tested positive for rabies, and the individuals are being treated.

TRAGEDY: Child Passes Away after Drowning

A 4-year-old child has tragically passed away early Monday morning after drowning in a pool in Upstate New York. The boy, Shimon ben Leah Malka Esther Weiss, OBM, and his family were guests in the KMS bungalow colony in Swan Lake, New York.

An Angel in the Supermarket

It was Friday, on a balmy spring morning, and I was standing in line at the checkout counter in Rockland Kosher Supermarket. My cart was overflowing with groceries which would add up to a pretty penny. I was, however, the grateful recipient of food stamp benefits, and one swipe of my precious plastic card would cover the cost of my bimonthly food shopping trip. Nonetheless, I had chosen carefully, scanning the sale aisle for bargains, wanting to make the most of the government’s assistance. I loaded my items onto the counter and waited patiently for the cashier to add them up.

Report: Lubavitcher Drowned in White Lake – Body Found

WHITE LAKE, NY [CHI] — Reports are indicating that a man that drowned in White Lake earlier this afternoon is a Lubavitcher Bochur from Crown Heights. According to rescue personal the unidentified man was boating out on the lake, and after jumping in he never resurface. and intensive search is currently underway.

Sullivan County’s Walmart Beefs-Up Kosher Section

MONTICELLO — First, Walmart conquered the Main Street market of hardware and underwear.

Now the retail giant is going after another market — the Catskill kosher market of gefilte fish and blintzes.

The Monticello Walmart just ran a full-page ad touting “expanded selections” in its “new kosher fresh section for the summer 2010.” It’s added kosher products like Empire organic chicken and Teva Angus beef sliders.

Route 52 in Ulster County saw five fatal crashes in 2006-07. Overall, the roadway ranked No. 1 among deadly roads in our region from 1999-2007.

Route 52 rises out of Pine Bush, crosses into Ulster County, climbs through Walker Valley and Warwarsing, and, before descending sharply into Ellenville, offers expansive views of Highland Lakes State Park and the Catskill foothills.

It’s a beautiful drive, and more and more often, a deadly one.

Tragic Accident Claims the Life of Flatbush Yeshiva Student

WOODRIDGE, NY [CHI] — A tragic one-vehicle accident upstate New York left one Bochur dead, and a seriously injured passenger after the driver apparently fell asleep at the wheel. The incident took place on Route 58, Glen Wild Road near Woodridge in Sullivan County, right across from the Skvere Camp Beis Yitzchok.

Yeshiva World News reported that the Niftar is 19-year-old Yeshaya Dovid Eckstein OBM who lived on 8th Street in the Kensington section of Brooklyn.
