This Sunday, The 40th Chabad Telethon

On Sunday Rosh Chodesh Elul – September 1 – at 5pm PDT Chabad of California will be hosting its 40th annual L’Chaim-ToLife! Telethon. This annual Telethon is one of the most watched Jewish event of the year with hundreds of thousands of Jews tuning in from across the country and even many more across the world watching it live on www.tolife.com.

Weekly Story: The Criteria to Accept or Reject a Student

As the new school year is about to begin, we hear parents lamenting that their sons/daughters are not being accepted (or allowed to return) to the school of their choice for the upcoming year. Many times it is not the school’s fault, as they are full and the parent applied late or for similar reasons. However, sometimes the reason given is that your son/daughter is scholastically not up to our level. In my research on the Rebbe Rashab for my upcoming book, The Rebbeim Biography Series: The Rebbe Rashab, I came across the following story that sheds light on this phenomenon. This is taken from Section Three of the book, which includes stories that shed light on his life.

Georgia Governor Declares State of Emergency Over Hurricane

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp on Thursday afternoon declared a state of emergency for 12 South Georgia counties ahead of the arrival of Hurricane Dorian. The counties under the alert are Brantley, Bryan, Camden, Charlton, Chatham, Effingham, Glynn, Liberty, Long, McIntosh, Pierce and Wayne.

Ahead of the new school year, a giant billboard right outside Kfar Chabad features a blessing and picture of the Rebbe. The text of the blessing was in fact written by the Rebbe to students of Kfar Chabad, and now is displayed for all to see. This is one of several such billboards erected recently across Israel, all featuring Rebbe pictures courtesy of JEM.
