1,500 Jewish Teens on Spiritual Tour de Force in NYC

“How many people can rent out Times Square and have a mad Jewish party there?” asks Koby Lerner, rhetorically. The 16-year-old from San Diego will be one of more than 1,500 other Jewish teens from countries around the world to share in a Havdalah ceremony and spend Saturday night in New York’s iconic neighborhood at Broadway and Seventh Avenue as part of the ninth annual CTeen International Shabbaton, to take place Feb. 24-26. And that’s after a weekend of spirited (and spiritual) celebrations, learning, touring, socializing and more.

ULY Holds Annual Chinese Auction Event

Hundreds of women turned out Sunday evening for the auction and evening of entertainment benefiting Lubavitcher Yeshiva. Following the Chinese auction viewing, which was complimented by delicious hot food from a number of popular local restaurants, the crowdwas entertained by the music of Sarah Dukes and heard and inspiring talk from Mrs. Rivkah Slonim.

Young European Shluchim Enjoy Winter Camp

Over 80 boys and 90 girls from nine European countries including Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Latvia, Northern Cyprus, Sweden, Turkey, Hungary and Poland, traveled to Zhytomyr and Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine, for a week full of friends, activities, chassidishe chayus and inspiration at “Shluchim Shtetl”, a winter camp geared specifically for Hebrew speaking Shluchim all over Europe, currently in it’s 6th year.

My Son Was Hit By a Car; the Driver Didn’t Apologize

In a painful open letter to the community, a Crown Heights parent says that last night their young son was struck by a vehicle as he was crossing the street. The driver, a member of our community, then added insult to injury.

Update: The driver (through CrownHeights.info) reached out to the family of the boy who was hit. She personally apologized to the boy and has offered to pay for any damage.

Where Jews in Copenhagen Feel Right at Home

Walk down the block-long Ole Suhrs Gade Street in Copenhagen—from the Botanical Gardens at one end to Sortedams Lake at the other—and there is a certain old-world charm. Neighbors engage in quiet conversation or sip coffee at corner cafes, with dozens of bicycles parked in racks or leaning against the long rows of similar-appearing, walk-up apartment buildings that line both sides of the street. It is therefore easy to walk right past #10 Ole Suhrs Gade without noticing anything special.
