6 Indicted for Welfare Fraud in Williamsburg

Federal criminal charges were filed today against six Chasidic Jews in Williamsburg for participating in long-running schemes to hide substantial assets and income obtained from significant business and real estate interests in order to attain government benefits designed for low-income individuals.

Song Celebrates Life of Yossi Piamenta on 1st Yahrtzeit

Israeli musician Achiya Asher Cohen Alloro recently came out with his first single, “Yoseph’s Tune.” The piece was composed by Achiya in memory of the musician and guitarist Yossi Piamenta. The day after Piamenta’s funeral, Achiya sat down by the piano remembering Yoseph , when  his feelings transformed into a melody. This piece was released exactly one year after Piamenta’s passing, on 8 Elul.

First-Time Florida Bike-a-Thon Champions Seniors

Lawrence Rekblatt, 22, is getting ready to ride in a bike-a-thon to honor senior citizens. Organized through Chabad’s United Jewish Generations program in North Miami Beach, Fla., the ride will bring different generations together on Grandparents Day, which is celebrated annually on the first Sunday after Labor Day. This year it falls on Sept. 11, marking the 15th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and U.S. Pentagon.
