For many years now, the Kupas Bochurim of the Yeshiva in 770 has been distributing hats, jackets and coats to the hundreds of students, most of whom come from Israel and lack suitable winter attire. This distribution has been funded by Sholom Ber Drizin of Crown Heights.
Update: Reb Yoel Kahan releases letter encouraging all Bochurim to refuse to sign.

CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — Frustrated and fed up that the Crown Heights neighborhood has been crime’s ‘punching bag’ this past week, the Shomrim Patrol put out a number of additional patrols to cover the neighborhood. Last night it paid off with the apprehension and arrest of a car burglar.
The Brooklyn Cruise Terminal, the site where the Kinus Shluchims banquet was scheduled to be held, was damaged by the floods from Hurricane Sandy and the organizing committee was notified that it would not be available for the banquet – scheduled to take place in a week from now.

The marathon that once brought New York City’s people together for 40 years has come to a screeching halt because of the backlash it is receiving in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. The NYC Marathon drew 45,103 runners in 2010 and is one of the largest marathons in the world.

Friday, the 17th of Cheshvan, was the first yahrtzeit of Rebbetzin Bassie Azimov, OBM, of Paris, France. She was buried the next day on Har Hazeizim, next to her father, Reb Bentzion Shemtov, OBM. A delegation of relatives and Chassdim from France and Eretz Yisroel were present at the unveiling of her Matzeiva, Thursday evening.
On Friday morning, a woman walked into Kahan’s Superette on Kingston Ave. and began to enjoy a breakfast. She opened a package of food and started her meal, then exited the store with a jar of jam – without stopping by the checkout counter.
