A bochur from Lakewood who was returning home for Pesach from his Yeshiva in Israel was arrested during a 2-hour stopover in Moscow, when Russian authorities found a bullet in his luggage that he kept as a souvenir from an Israeli soldier. After spending over three months in the Russian legal system, through the efforts of many activists in Russia and all over the world, he was finally released and returned home to his family.

In commemoration of 40 years since the Rebbe chose 12 Pesukim for children to learn and internalize, Cheder Menachem of New Jersey’s theme this year was The 12 Pesukim: Directions for Life. The finale of this project was the building of a Beis Hamikdosh out of 70,000 pieces of Lego.
A brand new Sefer Torah was completed Sunday afternoon by the Levy family – in the memory of their sister Chaya Mussia Levy, OBM. A joyous procession made its way through the streets of Crown Heights. The home of the new Torah will be at the Besht Center shul.

On Friday, June 23, a California state court rejected an “animal rights” organization’s challenge to the ancient Jewish practice of Kapporos by Chabad of Irvine, allowing the synagogue to proceed with the ceremony before Tom Kippur this year. The court is the second since May to reject a lawsuit brought against the synagogue by these activists.

Earlier this month, hundreds gathered at the Jewish Children’s Museum to look back on another successful year at JNet. The theme of the evening, “A Chossid Macht a Seviva” (a Chossid creates an environment), was especially apt as the room was permeated with tremendous pride, for being part of a greater good and for reigniting another Jew’s spark.
Hundreds of Chassidim, Shluchim and Temimim from all over the world spent Shabbos at the Ohel, preparing for Gimmel Tammuz. The Ohel management was busy up until the final minutes before Shabbos preparing for the guests and making sure all their needs – both spiritual and physical – would be met.
Rabbi Mendy and Ariella Weg are moving together with their family on Shlichus to Evanston, Illinois, and will be working with the Jewish students studying at Northwestern University.
