At least 57 tombstones in a large Jewish cemetery outside Norridge were defaced with anti-Semitic slogans last weekend in a vandalism spree that caused at least $100,000 in damage, Cook County police said.

Two Cars Vandalized Following Road Disputes

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — This morning a Crown Heights resident was shocked to find two tires on her car slashed in addition to an obscenity scratched into the paint on the driver’s side door, the car was parked on Kingston Avenue between East New York and Lefferts Avenue.

The incident if following a road incident near her home where another driver claimed that she had struck his vehicle and demanded she pay him, police were called to the scene and determined that there is no grounds to his claim, and that there was no collision. The driver began yelling at cops and then drove off.

Shomrim Settle a Dispute Involving a Knife Wielding Person

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] – At around 12:15 this afternoon a dispute broke out inside the Rimon Café on Albany Avenue between the cashier and a former employee over money the owner allegedly owed him, the dispute quickly escalated when the cashier asked him to leave and come back when the owner was in.

Shomrim Members were Gang Assaulted while Settling a Dispute

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — A number of Shomrim members responding to a call were ambushed and gang assaulted. The incident took place earlier tonight, Motzoai Shabbos, when Shomrim got the call about a dispute inside 749 Eastern Parkway, members arrived on scene and began sorting out the incident when a large gang converged on the room and trapped the members inside.

As the situation began getting out of hand Shomrim members called for backup and for police assistance. The crowd then started throwing punches and assaulting the members.

Attempted Mugging and Assault on New York Ave

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Thursday night at about 12:30 AM, two Bochurim walking on New York Ave and President St were accosted by a Black male who said to them “You know what this is” and shoved one of the Bochurim against a fence while pulling out a knife at the other demanding money.

Attempt to Reason with Troubled Teen end in his Arrest

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Last night, Wednesday at around 7:00 PM, Shomrim received a call from two scared children, home alone, saying there was someone prank calling them and they think he was outside their house.

A few Shomrim members were dispatched to the house, made sure the children, both in their early teens, were okay and secured the house. The Shomrim members waited for the parents to come home, who told them that they knew who the caller was.

Domestic Dispute Escalates into Six Injured Police Officers

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Police responded to what was a Domestic Dispute in an apartment at 446 Kingston Avenue, but when officers arrived to what they say was an all out brawl which quickly had the family turning their rage at the officers.

Bochurim Apprehend Mugger

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] – This afternoon, at around 2:30 on the corner of Albany and President, two Black youths mugged a Jewish woman. The youths, approached the woman, hit her then knocked her to the ground and ran off with her purse. Two alert Bochurim managed to apprehend one of the youths and returned the stolen purse.

Youths Yell Racial Slurs at a Bochur

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] – A Bochur was accosted while walking on New York Avenue between Carroll and President Streets yesterday, Tuesday, at around 4:00 PM, by a group of what appeared to be Black teens, who hurled anti-Semitic slurs and profanities at him. The group was composed of around 10 youths all of whom appeared to be on their way home from school.

When the Bochur passed the group, they began to shout “Heil Hitler” and “Run away Jew, Hitler’s coming to kill you all”, along with other profanities. The Bochur crossed the street, approached the youths and asked them if they were aware “that Hitler killed 6 million Jews.” Seeing that the youths appeared shocked, the Bochur continued, “did you know that he hated and killed Blacks just the same?”

Shomrim Apprehend Trespasser and Burglar

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Two alert residents on their way home Thursday night spotted a Black male sneaking from porch to porch of Jewish homes on Carroll Street between Troy and Schenectady, the residents immediately called Shomrim and did not confront the perp.

Within moments over 10 Shomrim members responded and surrounded the area from the alleyway and front of one of the homes belonging to Reb Yisroel Shemtov, which he made his way to rear to see if there was anything of value there, but ran into a few members who escorted him to the front of the house.

Shomrim Apprehends a Group of Egg Throwing Assailants

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Halloween is known among Crown Heights residents as ‘Chag Habaitzim’ [the egg holiday], where groups of youths rove around in groups and pelt eggs at residents.

A group of three Bochurim walking on Montgomery St near Kingston Ave, were confronted by a group of close to 15 youths who pelted them with eggs, and they got physical as well.

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] – In a night of mischief and violence, Shomrim reported a less then average egg throwing incidents, yet logged over 30 calls of residents calling for assistance and escort.

A Shomrim spokesperson credited the reduction to residents being more aware to the potential dangers, by reports of CrownHeights.info and other news outlets. He also added that Shomrim averaged a one minute and under response time to calls, which he credited to the 5 active vehicle patrols from night fall to 1:00am.

Two Bikes Stolen in Two Days on Eastern Pkwy

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Yesterday, Monday, a 12 year old boy on his way to school had his bike stolen by a Black male, today the same incident unfolded once again when a Bochur had his bike stolen.

Both incidents took place on the 77th precincts side of Eastern Parkway, one between Kingston and Brooklyn Avenues at 9:00am yesterday, while the other took place between Albany and Troy in front of Lubavitcher Yeshiva – Chovevei Torah at 9:30 today.

Bochur Assaulted on Eastern Parkway

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — A Bochur sitting on a bench on Eastern Parkway was assaulted early Tuesday evening. The incident took place at around 8:30pm, between Kingston and Albany Avenues, where the Bochur was sitting with another Bochur, talking when they were approached by a group of three black youths.

One of the group, described to be around 18 years old, ask one of the Bochurim for the time, the Bochur immediately sensed something wrong and stood up, that’s when the youth punched the Bochur in the face then together with his gang began fleeing down the parkway towards Albany Avenue.

Dispute Leads to a Stabbing in a Grocery

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] – At around 3:15pm on Tuesday afternoon a dispute between two Black males lead to one stabbing the other in the stomach, the incident took place on Lefferts Avenue between Kingston and Albany Avenues, the circumstances of the dispute are unknown.

Boro Park Shomrim Arrest Phony Water Inspectors

BOROUGH PARK, Brooklyn [CHI] – Five people were arrested Friday after knocking on doors and posing as Department of Environmental Protection water inspectors in the Borough Park section of Brooklyn. The group, which comprised of 3 males and 2 females, are suspected in a number of robberies in the area.

The arrests came after the Borough Park Division of Shomrim received a call to their hotline about the fake inspectors trying to enter the home of a resident, which prompted Shomrim members to follow the suspects for close to 5 hours, resulting in their arrest by the NYPD.
