CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — A Bochur was beaten and mugged at gun point last night, and thanks to the quick thinking of a neighbor, a bystander and police’s immediate response, the incident ended with the arrest of the two perpetrators along with the recovery of the handgun.

The incident took place in front of 621 Crown Street, a large apartment building in between Troy and Albany Avenues, where a Bochur was walking home and two Black males accosted him, one pointing a gun and demanding his valuables and the other who began assaulting him.

Scream and calling for help, the Bochur managed to alert a nearby Jewish resident who came running out of his house in Crocs and pajamas and scared off the perps with his added cries of ‘Chaptzem’ and ‘call the police’. The perps then fled down Crown towards Albany and as they crossed the street another Bochur, who was walking home from a Lechaim, joined in the chase.

At this point police have been notified and the yungerman and Bochurim were still chasing the perps while punches were flying and people shouting, when one of the perps turned around and pointed the gun at the group and said “back off, don’t follow me”.

Tens of police officers began showing up on scene, flooding the entire block, and immediately one perp was apprehended on Crown between Albany and Kingston while the other, the one with the gun, managed to flee, police began giving chase with gun drawn and managed to apprehend the second perp on the corner of Albany and Crown, but he no longer had the gun on him.

Police searched the block and managed to find the handgun.

All three victims were then taken down to the stationhouse to make police reports, B”H none of them suffered any serious injuries.

CrownHeights.info would like to thank the police for the excellent job they did last night, removing two dangerous and violent criminals from our streets along with the recovery of an illegal handgun. We thank you for the protection!

In case of an emergency never hesitate to call 911 and Shomrim at (718) 774-3333 24/7

    People people people GET GUNS!!!

So many problems would be solved if people in NYC could carry concealed. When the city says “No Guns” Who is going to listen? The law abiding citizens right?
The criminals don’t care what the laws says they will get the guns anyway. So the people left unprotected are the citizens.
Calling the cops doesn’t help anyway they are always a certain distance that takes a certain amount of time to get to you.

Last night I personally witnessed the police doing a great job in apprehending the 2 muggers and finding the gun that they hid in the bushes on Crown st.

I am usually the first one to criticize the cops when they do something wrong.I just want to take this opportunity to thank the police for doing a great job last night.

    Hope the bochure is OK?
How many times were these 2 rats arrested before? 100?
We NEED TOUGHER LAWS! We need CIVILIZED LAWS! NOT LAWS OF THE JUNGLE!
Let’s protest anywhere it will be effective! All citizens who believe in a civilized society!
The government is letting wild animals loose on the public!

The new 71st Pct CO Shimonetti deserves some credit here too. He is well aware of the problems Vega did not correct.
Good job on the Cops part and Yasher Koach to Anash.

  • FedUp

They will probably get 90 days supervised release – in other words no further crimes unless a probation officer is looking!

  • CR

JJ – it’s great that they did a good job, but if they were REALLY doing a good job, criminals wouldn’t be so brazen to still attempt such crimes, even with crown heights STILL overun with cops. They aren’t afraid of the cops, they know they will not be prosecuted or jailed and this is the problem.

  • Whatever

Breaking news; two Hasidic men mug black man at gunpoint… oh no its the other way around, not important enough for a thousand reporters and screaming headlines… Whatever.

make sure your kids are not out alone once it gets dark. Chaverim, we need to learn from our mistakes.

chasing a guy with a gun is not as dangerous as stopping. most petty criminals cannot hit a moving target.

  • thankful

BH that the outcome of this story is a happy one!Thank you Shomrim and the police for watching over our streets!

    To CR-

I agree with you that there are many things the police can still approve, and I also agree that the judicial system has too many loopholes and needs an overhaul.

My comment above was based solely on the incident that i personally witnessed last night.I saw the cops catch one of the guys and I saw the cops search up and down crown st with flashlights until they found the gun.
Last night the cops did a great job and that needs to be recognized.
2 violent criminals are off the streets (at least temporarily) and an illegal gun is now off the streets permanently and can never be used to hurt anyone.

Thankyou to all the cops of the 71st precinct for doing a great job!

The picture was just for “show”!! Read the fine print under the photo. They just wanted to show you what a cop arresting a perp looks like…Seems no one had a camera on hand.

uch people get a life these idiots stay locked up longer than a month. be realistic and know that if someone gets time off for good behavior it means good behavior and no one gets prison terms off lightly. grow up all of you, you sound like whining grandmas. quit with the attitude issue!!
