CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — 5 Mezuzahs were torn from apartment doors inside of 1690 Union Street, a relatively small building with 31 residential units, most of whom aren’t Jewish, located between Schenectady and Utica Avenues.
The vandalism was discovered at around 6:30pm on Wednesday. Police along with Shomrim were called and immediately responded to the scene. Police quickly deemed the incident a bias crime and brought down a Crime Scene Unit to dust for fingerprints. Additionally detectives from the Bias Crime Squad responded and began investigating the incident.

A Shomrim member who was walking around the building searching for more apartments that were vandalized found one of the Mezuzahs sitting on a windowsill in the building. Police have turned over possession of the Mezuzah to Shomrim in order to have it returned, so victims be in touch with Shomrim, through the hotline, in order to have it identified and returned.
Just two months ago we reported a similar incident where perpetrators went and removed the Mezuzahs off every single apartment inside of 576 Eastern Parkway, police investigated that case and have not made any arrests. And in February of 2007 we reported that a Mezuzah was set on fire on an apartment door inside of 621 Crown Street, there were no arrests made in that case either.
