Hit & Run Resulted in a Serious Injury

At around 2:00am a few Bochurim were walking home and when crossing the intersection of Union and Schenectady a car struck one of the Bochurim.

Hatzalah and 911 were called and arrive on scene immediately they treated the Bochur for a severe injury to his leg. The Bochurim who were with him described the fleeing car as a white Chevy Impala. Police filled out a report and the Bochur was transported to Kings County Hospital.

Serious 4 Car Crash On Empire and Kingston

At around 12:00am last night a drunk driver in a late model Nissan Maxima got behind the wheel of his car while intoxicated, he was speeding down Empire towards Kingston when he collided with the rear end of a minivan with 4 Jewish girls forcing the van into the rear of a car waiting at the intersection.

The Maxima bounced off the Minivan and went flying into oncoming traffic and crashed head on into an older Toyota station wagon. The street covered in a shower of bits and pieces of plastic, glass and pieces of metal. Patrolling Shomrim members heard the loud series of bangs and arrived on scene immediately and began notifying Hatzalah, EMS and Police who arrived on scene shortly after the call.

3rd Accident Involving a School Bus in a Week

At around 3:30pm on Tuesday afternoon a black BMW collided with a school bus at the intersection of President St. and Brooklyn Ave. Eyewitnesses said that they had seen the BMW speed down President and heard it try to stop when it reached the intersection of Brooklyn where it collided with the bus. The BMW had a red light.

The school bus, operated by the ‘Varsity Bus Co.’ was packed with kids on their way home. Police had blocked off the surrounding area with the assistance of a few Shomrim Members and FDNY EMT’s treated some of the children on the bus for minor injuries, a few were transported to a local hospital.

Aggressive Driving leads to 2 School Bus Accidents

On the corner of Albany and Empire a stubborn SUV driver attempted to pass a bus and ended up scraping alongside it damaging his vehicle. The driver got out and got into an argument with the driver demanding the he pay him for his damages people that witnessed the incident attempted to convince the driver that he should just leave it, that the damage was minimal, but he insisted.

Police were called and 4 ambulances responded along with a police car, at which point the driver decided that it really wasn’t a good idea to peruse the matter, but Officers and EMT’s said the children that were on the bus needed to be taken to a local hospital to be checked out, and an accident report needed to be filed. There were 2 child passengers on the bus at the time of the accident.

Hit & Run on Eastern Parkway and Kingston

Monday afternoon at around 1:45 an elderly Jewish woman was crossing over Eastern Pkwy. and was struck by a sedan and injured, witnesses called Hatzalah who responded immediately and began treating the woman then rushed her of to Kings County Hospital for further treatment.

Witnesses told CrownHeights.info that they had observed a small black sedan, probably a Chevy, making a left turn from Kingston at a high rate of speed and stuck the woman, the driver hesitated for a few seconds then just sped off towards Brooklyn Ave. one witness had managed to get the plate number off the car and turned the information over to the police.

Minivan Rear ends Another Minivan on Eastern Pkwy.

At around 9:00pm a yiddisher driver made a right turn from Eastern Parkway onto Brooklyn Ave. when he was rear ended by another minivan driven by a goy. Airbags deployed on the minivan in the rear.

Hatzalah and EMS responded to the call, the driver was taken to a local hospital as well as passengers from the yiddishe car as well. B”H none of the injuries were serious or life threatening.

Accident on President and Kingston

A minivan driving on President St was struck by a sedan that had made a left turn from Kingston Ave after taking a red light. Both drivers got out and worked things out. B”H there was no injuries.

Car Loses Control and Smashes Up Two Parked Cars

At around 7:30 on Shabbos morning residents on the corner of Montgomery and Brooklyn heard a screech following a series of bangs, one resident ran out and saw a car all banged up on the front and wouldn’t drive, and two parked cars one with a big scrape along its side and another pushed up onto the sidewalk.

The driver was a woman who was driving with a learners permit along with her son who had a regular driver’s license, the driver stated that when making a left turn from Brooklyn onto Montgomery she lost control of the car and went careening off the two parked cars. The driver did not flee, she called police and waited for them to fill out a police report.

Delivery Man Struck by a Van on his Bike

Last week, Tuesday evening a delivery man for Apple Drugs was struck by a van on his way back from a delivery, the incident happened on Albany Ave between Carroll and Crown the cyclist got pinned between the van who was changing lanes and another vehicle, he then fell.

The van pulled to the side and the worker called his boss, who notified Shomrim and Hatzalah. Shomrim arrived on scene first with the driver of the van screaming at the cyclist saying it was his fault, members calmed him down. Hatzalah arrived moments later and began treating the patient who was complaining of back pains and various other pains. He was then transported to Kings County Hospital.

Elderly Man Struck by Car

At about 7:45 on this wet rainy evening, Wednesday, on the corner of Empire and Albany an elderly resident of the community was struck by a vehicle. The car, which was driven by a woman, made a left from Albany onto Empire and hit the elderly man as he was in the cross walk crossing Empire, both the man and the driver had the green light.

Hatzolah took the elderly man to Kings County Hospital where he was treated for injuries he sustained to his head.

We would like to take this opportunity to remind everybody to be careful while on the streets, drivers and pedestrians alike. On the road be smart, not right!

Young Girl Hit by a Car

At around 5:00pm a young girl crossing Albany Ave at the intersection of Montgomery St was struck by an SUV that was making a right turn from Montgomery. Hatzalah responded to the incident and treated the girl for an injury to her leg and transported her to Kings County Hospital for further treatment and observation.

This incident brings the total number of pedestrians struck in the last 17 days to 4, a very disturbing number, one that is 4 to many. The first incident was on Friday the 20th of October when a student at the Darchei Menachem Yeshiva was crossing the service lane on Eastern Parkway at the Kingston Ave intersection where the Bochur was struck by a car, B”H his injuries were not severe.

Drunk Driver Rear Ends Parked Car

At around 7:15pm a minivan rear ended a SUV on Carroll St between Troy and Schenectady. The incident took place as a Jewish woman was double parked waiting for someone when all of a sudden she was rear ended by the minivan, both drivers got out and the driver of the minivan was being incoherent and had slurred speech. Police were called and did a field sobriety test which he failed and was arrested for DUI [Driving Under the Influence].

Cyclist Struck Crossing Eastern Pkwy.

At around 4:00am a young Black male was crossing Eastern Pkwy at the intersection of Schenectady Ave on his bike and a car coming down Schenectady struck him. FDNY and FDNY EMS responded to the incident and treated the injured, then transported him to a local hospital.

Illegal U-Turn Causes a 4 Car Smashup on Empire

Monday evening at around 7:30pm a small black sedan attempted to make an Illegal U-Turn on Empire Blvd. between Troy and Schenectady and swiped an SUV that was traveling in the opposite side, the impact forced the SUV into the next lane over where a Minivan was and forced it up onto the sidewalk where the driver lost control and smashed into a parked car.

Out of this whole smashup derby there were no reported injuries. Police and FDNY EMS responded to the call, and blocked off Empire coming from Schenectady for nearly two hours.

EMT dies just after aiding at 1st crash

Amherst, MA – Early Sunday morning, Bradley N. Skikne was traveling along Route 2 in Athol when he came across a three-car accident.

The 22-year-old University of Massachusetts student from Middleton, who was also an emergency medical technician, stopped to help until an ambulance and the state police arrived.

Later that morning the state police, tracking the license plate on Skikne’s car, called his home to thank him for his help, said Rabbi Simcha Levenberg who knew Skikne since 2004 when he became program director of Chabad House at UMass.

Couple Struck on Eastern Pkwy and Brooklyn

A Couple visiting Crown Heights for the holidays were both crossing Eastern Parkway in the cross walk and were both struck and knocked down by a car who was making a left turn from Brooklyn Ave unto Eastern Parkway.

The incident took place at around 4:45pm, a few eye witnesses stated that they saw the car making the turn at a high rate of speed and the next thing they saw was the man and woman go down. Hatzalah and EMS arrived on scene within moment of the accidents and began treating the man who was complaining of pains, he was transported to KCH with his wife by Hatzalah for further checkup. Police did not issue any summonses.

2 Car Accident with Injuries on Eastern Pkwy and Brooklyn Ave.

Early Thursday morning at around 3:30am a series of loud bangs we heard throughout the intersection of Eastern Parkway and Brooklyn Ave and bystanders that had come to see what had taken place watched in horror how one SUV with severe damage to its right side and its driver still trapped inside the car.

According to witnesses they say that one car, a Pontiac Sedan, tried to make a right turn unto Brooklyn Ave from the middle lane striking the Chevy SUV in the left side and sending it into two light and traffic signal poles. The driver of the SUV’s leg got stuck in the center dash but he managed to release himself and exit his vehicle where he got down on the floor and EMS who had arrived on scene began treating him for his injuries. The driver who was not Jewish was alone in his car, while the other car had both a driver and a passenger who are both Jewish, the passenger refused medical attention but the driver was transported by Hatzalah to Kings County Hospital for observation.
