At about 7:45 on this wet rainy evening, Wednesday, on the corner of Empire and Albany an elderly resident of the community was struck by a vehicle. The car, which was driven by a woman, made a left from Albany onto Empire and hit the elderly man as he was in the cross walk crossing Empire, both the man and the driver had the green light.
Hatzolah took the elderly man to Kings County Hospital where he was treated for injuries he sustained to his head.
We would like to take this opportunity to remind everybody to be careful while on the streets, drivers and pedestrians alike. On the road be smart, not right!

As always… accidents at the corner. Why don’t people start using their brains and cross in the middle of the block when there is no traffic?
Whaaaaaat?!
"both the man and the driver had the green light"
– if the car was turning it obviously did not have a green light; for it is illigal to make any turn until the crosswalk is clear of pedestrians. [in New York you are not permitted to turn the corner as soon as your light turns green – you must allow pedestrians to cross first – and only then is it your ‘green’; right of way.
watch out
to safety first-
if i’m assuming correctly you’re advising for people to cross in middle of the block?? why would that make sense to you? when a person crosses not by a crosswalk and another car is turning onto that block with normal speed, it’s hard for the driver to stop in time for the person crossing in middle of the roadway not to be hit… so only cross at corners and look all ways before you do!

You wrote, and I quote: "Why don’t people start using their brains "
Have respect for an elderly man! Does ‘Respect your elders’ not mean anything to you?
There are Halochos about respecting older people – I know that in Chabad we aren’t too particular about it, but nevertheless that isn’t the way to talk about an older person.
I understand the point you are trying to convey, but you shouldn’t talk such a way about an older person.
Thanks for your time.

its very difficult 2 see s/1 who is wearing all black @ nite esp in reduced visibility with the rain.

Why do u write, "which was driven by a woman" what difference does it make the same thing could have happened if it was a male driver! The point is we all have to be more careful

The corner is very dangrous. cars drive at 40 MPH on Empire then want to make a left turn (or right) and avoid oncoming traffic and they never look out for pedestrians.
Any suggestions?
go england
have zebra crossings like they do in england, or have a green light timed for pedestrians only.
