Crown Heights [CHI] — Reports are flooding in about an ongoing hostage situation on the corner of Montgomery St. and Troy Ave., where a stabbing occured. It appears the suspect fled into the corner building - 840 Montgomery - and holed himself up in one of the apartments.

Gunfire erupted today near the massive West Indian Day Parade in Brooklyn — not far from where Mayor Bloomberg was marching — as the entire city reeled from a epidemic of shootings over the past two days.

By noon today, a total of 46 people had been shot in the city since Saturday morning, authorities said.

Wisconsin Shul Dedicates Torah 3 Years After Break-In

The Aug. 28 celebration brought almost 100 people to Chabad of Kenosha, where they danced with the new Torah scroll dedicated in honor of Rabbi Tzali Wilschanski’s late grandfather, Rabbi Tzvi Yosef Kotlarsky.

Visitors from around Wisconsin joined out-of-state guests at the Chabad-Lubavitch center in Kenosha to celebrate the dedication of a new Torah scroll commissioned after the theft of the center’s previous two scrolls.

Night of Violence Injures Many and Claims Life

An inseparable part of the West Indian-American Day Parade is a nighttime celebration called J’ouvert. It is a night feared and dreaded by the police, both for their own safety and the amount of people who get shot and stabbed throughout the night. This year was no different, with a number of fatalities as well as people shot and stabbed all around the area.
