WHITE LAKE, NY [CHI] — Reports are indicating that a man that drowned in White Lake earlier this afternoon is a Lubavitcher Bochur from Crown Heights. According to rescue personal the unidentified man was boating out on the lake, and after jumping in he never resurface. and intensive search is currently underway.

It was a beautiful day on March 1, 1994, as Nachum Sasonkin, an Israeli-born 18-year-old student at the Lubavitcher Yeshiva in Brooklyn, rode in a van with his friends, returning to yeshiva from a visit to the hospital in Manhattan where their Rebbe, R’ Menachem Mendel Schneerson—lay in a coma. They were young men, teenagers, studying in yeshiva; everything was just the way they had hoped it would be. But then, all of a sudden and out of nowhere, everything went black. Someone was shooting at their school bus.

Asked if the descendants of Abraham shouldn't be pleased about being tapped for an unprecedented second term, Jerusalem Rabbi Ben Meyerson shrugged. “Of course, you are right, we should be thrilled,” he said. “We should also enjoy a good swift kick in the head, but for some reason, we don't.

”Now don't ask such questions until you watch the news, or read history, or at least rent 'Fiddler on the Roof'.“

Much of the world's re-blessed Jewish community shared that feeling. ”It's always been considered a joke with us. You know, 'Please G-d, next time choose someone else,' ha ha," said New York City resident David Bashert.

In support of Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin, group of Shluchim started a campaign to get 10,000 people to don Tefillin by Thursday evening. As of Wednesday morning, the campaign has been successful in getting 2,256 pledges from many Jews.

The campaign's goal is to get 10,000 people to don Tefillin, before Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin sentencing. Arguments are scheduled to begin today.

This Thursday, March 25, Sixty Mitzvah ‘Tanks’ will parade through the steets of downtown Manhattan in honor of the 108th anniversary of the Rebbe’s Birth. The annual Mitzvah Tank Parade, a project of the Mitzvah Tank Org, will begin at 11:00 am at the corner of Eastern Parkway and Kingston Avenue in Brooklyn.
