Weekly Letter: No Vacation from Torah and Mitzvos

This week, as we approach summer vacation, we present a letter the Rebbe composed especially for the Talks and Tales, a monthly children’s magazine which Rabbi Nissan Mindel authored in English for over 47 years (at the behest of the Frierdiker Rebbe, and which the Rebbe checked over each and every issue for the duration of the 47 years before they went to print). The letter contains a wonderful message to children and adults alike about the importance of Torah learning and Mitzvos during the summer months.

New Book Gathers Rebbe’s Uplifting Views on Life

The latest book in the Advice for Life series, Kaleidoscope: Uplifting Views on Daily Life, distills hundreds of the Rebbe’s talks, letters and private encounters into 75 brief entries. As with the other books in the series, the easy-to-read text is presented with a crisp design and historical photos, some published for the first time.

Man Arrested for Assault on Elderly Jewish Man

A 72-year-old Jewish man was assaulted earlier this morning as he was walking on Kingston Avenue. The assailant then went on to threaten both Jewish and non-Jewish passersby that he would “kill them all.” The incident is being investigated as a possible hate crime.

MyShliach Hosts Volunteer Appreciation Evening

Representing the parents of yaldei hashluchim around the globe, Rabbi Yosef Wolvovsky, shliach to Glastonbury, Connecticut, addressed bochurim at MyShliach’s annual evening of appreciation on Monday, 25 Sivan. Volunteering their time each week to learn and farbreng one-on-one over the phone with a young shliach, these bochurim serve as mentors to these boys, who lack local Chassidishe friends and chavrusas.

Crown Heights Landlord Convicted of ‘Harassment’

In the first ever such criminal investigation pursued by the State of New York, an Orthodox-Jewish Crown Heights landlord was convicted of “harassing” his tenants by failing to consistently provide them with heat and hot water, and by performing unsanctioned renovations to the building. He faces up to a year in jail.
