Lazar Sheva Brachos Celebrated with Young Shluchim

These days the spacious grounds of Yeshivas Tomchei Tmimim Lubavitch in the suburbs of Moscow is hosting Camp Gan Yisroel for  dozens of young shluchim, along with their dedicated counselors, head counselors and staff. As is customary in Lubavitch, to have one of the sheva brachos celebration in Yeshivas Tomchei Tmimim, chasan Menachem Mendel Lazar and his new wife came to Camp Gan Yisroel to celebrate together with the young campers, children of Shluchim, in what turned out to be a most emotional and lively celebration.

Weekly Letter: Sharing Our Torah

This week, we present a letter from the Rebbe in answer to those who question the way of Chabad – to sacrifice some of our own advancement and growth in the study of Torah for the sake of our fellow Jew, to bring him closer to Yiddishkeit. During the Three Weeks, when we reinforce our ahavas Yisroel, the lesson contained in this letter is particularly timely. The letter, written originally in English, is from the archives of the Rebbe’s personal trusted secretary, Rabbi Nissan Mindel.

Moment of Silence Spreads in NYC Public Schools

P.S. 191, also known as The Paul Robeson School, sits at the border of Crown Heights and Brownsville. The school’s student population, around 300 suffer from poverty to the extent that 99% of them meet the standards for free or reduced-price lunches. Some even live at a homeless shelter next door. But, at 8:30, every morning, just like clockwork, a moment of silence is observed. It may only last for one minute, but for that moment, the entire school is quiet.

Shluchim Help Evacuate Body of Young Accident Victim

The body of 12-year old Israeli girl Nicole Surkin, killed in a driving accident in Khabarovsk in the Far-East of Russia yesterday, will be flown to its final resting place in Israel tomorrow morning. Chabad rabbis and community leaders of Khabarovsk and Birobidjan were called upon to help speed up the process of recovering the body from the Russian police, and to facilitate its transfer to Israel.
