A carpenter from Harrisburg custom-built the
ark for Chabad of Chester County.

Philadelphia, PA – Two area synagogues have welcomed new additions to their bimahs, which amount to new homes for their Torahs.

Chabad Lubavitch of Chester County: Jewish Center last week dedicated a brand-new, custom-built aron kodesh, or holy ark, to house its three Torahs.

Similarly, a new ark has just been installed at Lubavitch of the Main Line’s new building at the General Wayne Inn in Merion.

According to Chester County’s Rabbi Yossi Kaplan, the ark was custom-built for the synagogue and donated by Kaplan’s father in honor of his father, the rabbi’s grandfather.

Altercation In Front of Oholei Torah, Hatzalah Member Harassed

At around 4:00 this (Tuesday) afternoon a confrontation broke out between Bochurim and some black youths in front of Oholei Torah Mesivta located at 417 Troy Ave. between Empire Blvd and Montgomery St, according to Bochurim a black kid around 15 years old had started up with a Bochur outside the building, which prompted a few other Bochurim to come out and defend themselves. Furthermore Bochurim claim that this particular kid has been around before and tried to cause trouble.

During the altercation one Bochur was spayed with Mace and required medical attention which he received from Hatzalah who had responded to the scene. The first police officers on scene were the infamous ticket car whose priority was to check the double parked Hatzalah Vehicle, after which they just stood around while a higher ranking Officer was handling the situation.

Designated Ticket Car Goes Undercover

PO Ditto (L) and PO Lee (R) next to their new car

Now they are out giving tickets in an unmarked black Chevy Impala. And are still very successful L”A.

Gang Assaults Boy! Again!

At around 5:30 this (Tuesday) afternoon an eleven year old boy was assaulted on Eastern Parkway between Brooklyn Ave. and New York Ave. by a gang of 20 to 30 black youth’s aging from 13 to 16 years, who surrounded the boy and punched him in the face. A Lubavitcher who had seen the incident taking place while driving by called Shomrim then reversed and was about to get out of his car when the group dispersed, laughing and left the boy alone. Shomrim members that arrived on scene took the boy around to see if he can identify the group, but were not successful.

Police also responded with 6 cars, looked around a bit, but did not seem interested, then another call came over and half the officers went running on the new and more important call, one officer was nice enough to take the boys name down to make him feel like something will be done.

Young Jews Now Have A Day Camp

Tampa Bay Online

Trinity, FL — After moving here in March, Rabbi Yossi Eber, his wife, Dina, and their three children quickly reached out to other Jewish families.

The Ebers, who moved from Brooklyn, N.Y., the center of their Hasidic faith in the United States, founded the Chabad of West Pasco in New Port Richey, which supports the Chabad Lubavitch tradition.

Through Chabad Lubavitch, one of the largest branches of the Hassidic movement, more than 4,000 families around the world have relocated to help, teach and inspire Jews in 70 countries. One result is something new to the area, a summer day camp for Jewish youngsters, Gan Israel Day Camp.

Gang Assaults Bochur!

Today (Tuesday) at about three in the afternoon a 15 Year old Bochur walking on Eastern Parkway passing Hadar Hatorah going towards ULY Choivevei Torah, when a gang of about 30 to 40 black youths aging 13 to 16 years old who were walking on the median going towards Kingston Ave, started making vulgar slurs at him. The bochur proceeded and ignored them, when one of the youths threw a glass bottle at the bochur, hitting him in the leg.

The bochur seeing who threw it, called 911 on his cell phone, and made his way across the service lane to the youth who threw the bottle at him, confronted him and said, “Excuse me”. The gang then grouped together and started “speaking tough” when the youth who he confronted punched the bochur in the stomach, and in turn he punched the youth in the nose and tripped him, sending his assailant to the ground and then continued to administer blows to the youth while the gang ran to the Subway station.

A Lubavitcher passing by saw the bochur and pulled him away from the youth. The youth then ran away cursing and threatening to come back with his gang. The bochur then continued on and went to yeshiva.

Accident on Eastern Pwky. And Albany Ave.

At 12:30 this afternoon a member of Anash was driving down the service lane on Eastern Parkway and at the intersection of Albany Ave he was struck by an oncoming SUV.

Neither drivers sustained any injuries and there was light damage to the Lubavitcher’s car. Police responded in just over 20 minutes, and were extremely unprofessional and rude, they only took a witness from one driver and did not want to hear the other driver, when the driver demanded a Patrol Supervisor [which must be summonsed upon request] the officer’s responded that they don’t have to do anything.

The driver called 911 to complain and they in turn dispatched the supervisor, who arrived on scene 2 minutes after the officers left, and upon hearing the complaints he said there was nothing for him to do and they should refer to the proper “Review Boards” and file complaints. [Ed. Note: this being the Civil Complaint Review Board which can be reached VIA 311]

Jewish group’s big loss in theft

VITAL RECORDS TAKEN ALONG WITH EQUIPMENT

The person who broke into a Sunnyvale synagogue office sometime over the weekend and stole computers, phones and software made off with not just equipment, but the recorded heart of a community.

Since Chabad of Sunnyvale opened three years ago, it has offered services for Jewish families that now number more than 500. No financial information about any of them was stolen, but hundreds of kids waiting to go to summer camp will have to register all over again. And Rabbi Yisroel Hecht must somehow re-create years’ worth of historical data about programs and people.
