Gang Assaults Boy! Again!
At around 5:30 this (Tuesday) afternoon an eleven year old boy was assaulted on Eastern Parkway between Brooklyn Ave. and New York Ave. by a gang of 20 to 30 black youth’s aging from 13 to 16 years, who surrounded the boy and punched him in the face. A Lubavitcher who had seen the incident taking place while driving by called Shomrim then reversed and was about to get out of his car when the group dispersed, laughing and left the boy alone. Shomrim members that arrived on scene took the boy around to see if he can identify the group, but were not successful.

The injury the boy sustained was B”H not serious and didn’t require medical treatment.
This gang is possibly the same one that was involved in the altercation where they assaulted a bochur on Eastern Parkway earlier in the day.

I urge everyone to write the Mayor (nyc.gov) and request that he put pressure on the police to do their jobs before matters get out of hand. If the Mayor is unaware he’ll do nothing. Secondly EVERYONE must ALWAYS file a police report when a situation occurs bec. That’s the only way to bring the crime rate up. If you don’t file a report the cops definitely won’t bec. That will only make them look bad.

In response to the comment made by "a girl", mace is not a recommended safety precaution against muggers, because a mugger who otherwise would not shoot or stab a victim is much more likely to do so when he is maced. Mace is only recommended for women as a useful defense against rapists, C"V. Therefore, NEVER use mace against a mugger. ALWAYS give him the money, jewelry, etc. that he is asking for and then call 911 immediately after the perpetrator is away from the scene. Once the police are called to the scene, then and only then call Shmira or Shomrim.
I do not mean to knock Shmira or Shomrim, but the police should ALWAYS be called first. Shmira or Shomrim do not have the authority to make a legal arrest nor do they have the ability to ward off an armed and dangerous criminal. Even if Shomrim or Shmira were armed, which they are not, they cannot legally use violent firepower to stop a criminal. I know what I’m talking about, because I’m a licensed attorney. Crown Heights residents must remember that Shmira and Shomrim are only neighborhood watch groups; they are not the equivalent of the police. Do not think that they are to the NYPD what Hatzolah is the FDNY paramedics.

I hate to break the news to you but they do have that authority, along with every other legal citizen of this country who is acting in good faith.
They can make an arrest using physical force, and use deadly firepower in certain situations as well.
