Altercation In Front of Oholei Torah, Hatzalah Member Harassed
At around 4:00 this (Tuesday) afternoon a confrontation broke out between Bochurim and some black youths in front of Oholei Torah Mesivta located at 417 Troy Ave. between Empire Blvd and Montgomery St, according to Bochurim a black kid around 15 years old had started up with a Bochur outside the building, which prompted a few other Bochurim to come out and defend themselves. Furthermore Bochurim claim that this particular kid has been around before and tried to cause trouble.
During the altercation one Bochur was spayed with Mace and required medical attention which he received from Hatzalah who had responded to the scene. The first police officers on scene were the infamous ticket car whose priority was to check the double parked Hatzalah Vehicle, after which they just stood around while a higher ranking Officer was handling the situation.
The police had gotten a few names of Bochurim involved they decided to leave the matter, without filing any reports.
After the incident the 2 Officers PO Ditto and PO Lee wanted to see the Hatzalah Members Identification to see whether he had the right to double park, upon producing proper identification [as if him walking with all the medical gear wasn’t enough] they were still harassing him to which other members called for a coordinator, it was at this time that the lieutenant intervened and prevented the ticket.

Regarding the incident which happened nearby to where the police received a call of a double parked car…
Once the police respond to a call [like a double parked car or something else important] they can not leave the scene or be distracted from their duties just to handle some unimportant violent dispute involving criminal weapons, {As stated in the New York State Penal Law Section 265.20: “…The use of this device [pepper spray (i.e. mace)] for any purpose other than self-defense [pursuant to article thirty five of this chapter] is a criminal offense under the law…”.} until they finish all the summonses, fines, reports, etc..

In light of all the recent incidents of police harassment ( e.g. the yungerman who was beaten and arrested by the police for protesting the wrong issuing of a ticket –the ticket and all charges were of course ultimately dropped because there was no merit to them) it is time for the community (if we can get our act together on any issue) to set up a legal fund to sue the individual cops as well as the precinct in general for there harassment and racial profiling of Jewish drives etc.
If the police commanders see that every time they put a foot wrong (just like they do to us…..) there will be a law suite or two flying in ,then I am sure that they will be allot more careful about hitting a Jew and harassing our paramedics.

the car doesn’t have volunteer license plates, so how do they know who it is, they were following it and questioned the driver without incident once they received the proper info to the driver.

There is two issues going on here. one, the injustice of getting a ticket if one is double parked for 5 minutes, and his flashers are going. After all we have to live here, let the cop go around the block if the person is still double parked then give him a ticket, cops have discretion. I have seen cops double parked to go into stores for 5 minutes themselves, if its forbidden, then it should be forbidden for everyone including cops. there is such a thing as a little courtesy.
The second issue is a Jewish one and a Jewish attitude. As Jews we have been conditioned to keep quite and not be noticed. this is a major error, we should definitly make a stink. otherwise Nazism/ inqusitionism and progroms are more likely to occur than anyone of us would like. History teaches us that. I would rather be arrested for making a stink than be arressted for being a Jew. We cannot make it acceptable to be treated like this or dismissed like this.

He was followed for half of Empire Blvd. Yes he doesnt have VAS plates (you dont have to). How do you know he almost hit two people? I have seen this guy take alot of calls and yes maybe he drives threw red lights i think he is allowed to. I was there i saw the attitude these 2 clowns gave this guy trying to help some people. 1. Chanina has as much clout and power as a soggy piece of chicken in your matzoh ball soup. The city listens to Rubashkin these days, regardless of the civil court machloches, they are professionally trained to deal with the CHAIRMAN, not the PAST Chairman.
2. Every time we ask yidden to attend the CH 71Precinct Community Council meetings, a lot of people show up and NOBODY says ANYTHING to Inspector Vega. At this month;s meeting, those yidden who have qualified to vote can vote for Carl Cohen and Basia Brandel for President and Vice President, and knock out the anti-semite Evelyn Williams who is in there now.

First of all, I’d like to thank the latter group mentioned above, THANX for coming to my defense in my absence.
Now to clarify for those who just didn’t get it. It will be a bit long, but please hear me out. Here it comes:
To start with, (and I’ll go in order here);
1) ‘Sick’, I couldn’t agree with you more about the ‘self hating Jew’. I would though hope it’s not to much to ask of you, to actually read the entire comment before getting "sick to your stomach".
2) I don’t consider myself to be a "moron", and certainly not a "self hating Jew". Although I will say that there might be one category of people that are worse; those who jump to conclusions lacking the necessary basis of facts and information, to form a proper decision. It i from the likes of them that many "self hating Jews" were created, after being turned off….
3) ‘Shmuli’, had you read those portions of the ‘New York State Penal Code’ you would realize that they stand behind the innocent civilian in every line. Had you even read the snippet I posted above you would notice;
a) they prove that the use of pepper spray in an offensive manner is a criminal act, thereby incriminating the perpetrator in this case, and showing why it was more important than a parking violation.
b) They also go to great lengths in legalising ‘self defense’, and ‘citizens arrests’ without which our community watch groups (Shomrim and Shmirah) would be unable to function.
4) I would definitely post my "name and badge #" as soon as I receive it. It might be a good idea to join the force, hey they might then have at least one cop who wont discriminate against us, and who will respond to incidents using a priority list based on principal rather than monetary value to the city.
5) ‘Chaya’, it’s a shame, you bring my point exactly, if only you would have been able to read it into the way I worded it.
6) ‘anti cops’, I will say two things here;
a) your name represents a concept very foreign to the Torah’s line of thought. The Torah clearly states: "Shoftim V’SHOTRIM sitein b’chol g’vulche..", Place Judges and Policemen within all your boundaries. "Without police man would eat man alive." As much as you may dislike the bureaucracies in the NYPD, police as a whole are very critical part of any civilization, and must be respected for that!
b) As far as your comment goes, please view above. This time though, please read the ENTIRE comment twice before replying.

1 of the guys that came, double parked his car. he looked out the window and saw a police man walking on the other
side of the street. so he ran down and started moving the car! as soon as the policeman saw this he crossed the street and gave him a ticket! ITS DISCROCIOUS! UNBELIEVABLE! we got to do something about this!

The problem here is not that they are giving tickets, like you said – that is there job (and they should do it.)
The problem:
The NYPD say they are giving ticket on accident prone zones. That’s fine, we most be safer on the road.
But our (real) problem here is, why are not the NYPD found in Crime prone zones.
If they are cracking down on Road crime then they should be (even more) cracking down on ALL crime.
[It just seems that they are just taking the easier Job (of making money) and not getting in to harms way.
I.e. we want full protection.
We are getting hit from all sites, The NYPD and the crimanals.
[And by the way, from the story above you see that in middle of a Crimanal case, they made it a point to arass someone about a traffic matter.]

Thanks to Crownheights.info for keeping us all posted. I think someone needs to talk to NYPD Chief Fox about the tickets given to Hatzolah units responding to calls. He is a very nice guy and I think he’ll do somthing about it.

Regarding the double parking and tickets:
it is very apparent the the police are against the jewish community, any time a car double parks to unload or to drop off a child at school the cops are there to give tickets in a flash.
However EVERY SINGLE saturday and sunday there are tens of cars double and triple parked next to the church on Empire blvd ( arround the block from the 71st) and not ONE car ever got a ticket.

This is utterly strange. After all, if people were to stop double-parking (with the exception of Hatzalah and emergency reasons–this doesn’t include gabbing on the phone, conveniently parking to easily load groceries, or whatever selfish reason), then we wouldn’t have this sort of problem anyway. Stop double-parking and maybe the police will actually become serious in fighting crime. It’s a problematic cycle and one which we can break!
