Exodus at the JCM Back by Popular Demand!

The 10,000 people who experienced “Exodus” at the Jewish Children’s Museum during March and early April will certainly not be surprised: owing to huge public enthusiasm, Exodus has agreed to add a full month of encore performances!

Judging from the past shows, Exodus has all the ingredients of a real blockbuster: time travel, water turning to blood, frogs dropping from the ceiling, a splitting sea and matza baking; what’s not to love?

Even though the Exodus organizers added tens of extra shows, after Exodus closed, they were still being inundated by requests for more.

The blood stained Van and Sidewalk.

About a month ago, CrownHeights.info reported the mugging and vicious beating of a 14 year old Bochur on the corner of Carroll and Schenectady.

About a week after the incident, the father of the Bochur began getting calls from the stolen phone. When the Bochur’s mother called the phone, the boy who answered was surprised to hear that the phone was stolen. He began to explain that he bought the phone for $40 from a boy named Levon, who got the phone from Issaiah. He also told the Bochur’s mother where Issaiah lives and where they all go to school. In middle of the conversation, his sister got on the phone and said that she wanted to have nothing to do with stolen goods and Levon assured her that it was a prepaid phone.

Rivka Chaya Berman – Lubavitch.com
Exterior of the new Rohr Family Chabad Centre

Architect He Wei of Beijing has mapped out construction of government compounds for thousands of workers, choreographed the dizzying dance of steel I-beams and rebar by the ton to raise apartment buildings, but the details of assembling a mikvah at the Rohr Family Chabad Community Centre of Chabad of Beijing, the first ever in vicinity of the Forbidden City, and the first in China since World War II, nearly did him in.

Amid Confusion Elections Move Forward

One of the most bizarre scenes unfolded at the election polls for the additional Rabonim. There were people standing screaming that you can’t vote, while others held letters signed by R. Osdoba & R.. Schwei saying the elections were postponed. According to the Va’ad HaKohol this is not true.

R. Osdoba released a letter which stated that he indeed signed a letter stating that the elections can be postponed, however there was a misunderstanding, and “the voting should continue with all vigor”! He also agrees that the elections should be extended until this Thursday.

NYPD Responds to the Violence at Kingston and Lefferts

At around 1:30 am the NYPD called for a Level One Mobilization at the corner of Kingston and Lefferts in response to all of the assaults transpiring there. Approximately 10 Officers from the 71st Precinct and about 30 officers from the Brooklyn South Task Force gathered on the corner, in front of the building. They then all together proceeded to enter the building and clear out the place. Police placed the victims of both assaults in a parked car in front of the building to be able to identify the criminals in case they arrest anyone.

Apparently there was a very large party in progress on the top floor of the building and the police cleared it out. Afterwards they went into the building across the street to check it out as well. There were no arrests made. Due to the variety of objects being thrown down from the windows, the police then stood clear of the windows, and advised the pedestrians to follow suit.

It’s worthy to note an incident that took place just prior to all the assaults directed at the Jews. A large brawl occurred directly in front of the building during which a police officer had to call for emergency backup. There were two perpetrators arrested there. Also noteworthy is the fact that this building, owned by a Lubavitcher, is home to some extremely violet criminals who have been convicted in the past, aside from all the problems local residents suffer from them.

For many of the thousands of Israelis who came to Prague to cheer their team at the Euro Basketball Final Four playoffs, the event offered an unexpected spiritual dimension.

With such a large number of Jewish people in one place, Chabad seized the opportunity, offering everyone the chance to do a mitzvah. Many wrapped tefillin, said a prayer, and gave some charity. But the effort became dramatic when hundreds celebrated Shabbat with Chabad’s Rabbi Manis Barash.

The Shomrim member called for help and other members responded immediately and forced them back. Police were called and responded in large numbers, but would not apprehend anyone, in fear on a riot.

B”H the other Shomrim members responded in time to prevent any serious injuries. This incident came just a few minutes after the first assault where a Lubavitcher was punched in the face.

Lubavitcher Assaulted on His Way Home From Shul

This Motzoai Shabbos a resident of the community, was on his way home from Shul after Shabbos when he was assaulted. He was passing the infamous building on Lefferts and Kingston when a single black man who directed racial slurs at him including among other slurs references that “Jews don’t belong in Crown Heights” approached him. He just hurried to walk away which must have angered the assailant since he then punched him in the face. B”H he was not hurt, and was taken to the police station where they filled out a police report.

Stone Thrown at Car Window

The car at the intersection where the incident took place

This Motzoai Shabbos at around 9:30 pm a Jewish woman driving down Brooklyn Ave had a stone thrown at her car from the building, 441 Empire Blvd, on the corner of Empire and Brooklyn. The stone, which was thrown from within a group of black teens and was clearly directed and this car, hit the drivers window and B”H. did not break it. Shomrim were called and responded within minutes, they then called the police and filed a report. This comes five minutes after a Shomrim member was assaulted on Lefferts and Kingston.

With this recent surge in violence in our community (which some say is a result of the good weather we’ve been having), we urge all members of the community to remain vigilant and if you see something happening please call Shomrim at (718) 774-3333.
