A much brighter Albany Ave.

The standard light fixtures installed by the DOT are built to maintain a 150 watt bulb which is normally installed as well was now upgraded thanks to efforts on R. Sholom Ber’s behalf to fixtures that can contain the new 400 watt bulbs.

Yet Another Open Letter – The 770 Incident

Sholom Aleichem is the way we greet each other because within that greeting is found the one thing human beings need most, peace. And when peace is not found in any relationship, one shudders to think of what takes its place.

Our holy community of Crown Heights amongst the entire Lubavitch community the world over is reeling from the violence that has crept into our Holy of Holies, Beis Chayeinu – 770. The Sitra Achara couldn’t beat us using his traditional weaponry of plain jealousy and hatred so he turned to righteous indignation. Imagine Jews, Chassidic Jews, Chassidim of our Rebbe, lifting their hands on one another and considering themselves to be righteous by doing so!

How many times did we hear the Rebbe instruct us not to fight, even when attacked?! The hands of Eisav have infiltrated Yaakov!! Indeed, the policy of our Rebbes and their Chassidim going back to the times of the Alter Rebbe has been not to fight back violently. Teach, inspire, lead! But to hit!! Gevald Gevald!! If we do not stop the craziness now, what will come next? The Aitra Achara is succeeding!!

Judge Bars Aggressive Vandal from Entering 770

Thaler being led out in handcuffs.

Earlier this week Judge Ira Harkavy, justice in the State Supreme Court placed Yaakov Tahler in contempt of court and gave Merkos and Aguch a temporary restraining order denying him of stepping within 25 feet of 770 (including 784 and 788). This comes after the courts found Thaler and his cohorts guilty of deface and damaging 770 last year. The judge said that this was done “in order to protect its dignity” referring to Thaler violating the terms set forth in June of this year.

This judgment reaffirms what the Rebbe noted to the Hanhola of the Central Yeshiva in 5751: “Take their belongings and their hands and go to Bnei Brak or someplace else”. A hearing to determine the final verdict is set for later this month.

Shliach: I feel safer in Vietnam than in 770

Shturem.net – Yair Borochov

The brutal pogrom that took place Sunday night in 770 after the Shluchim banquet in N.J. caused severe injuries to many of the people who happened to be at the site at the time. One of those whose leg was broken as a result of the melee was the new shaliach in Vietnam, Rabbi Menachem M. Hart-man.

Rabbi Hart-man was rushed to the hospital immediately where his leg was placed in a cast and now he walks on crutches. All this, a day before he is scheduled to return to Vietnam.

In an exclusive interview with Shturem.net he related what had transpired that night:

The Tragedy in 770

Rabbi Dovid Eliezrie
<%image(20061123-throwing books 3.jpg|415|277|Hay, Barry...Catch This!)%>

A moment of glory and pride turned to embarrassment and sadness on Sunday night. Over three and half thousand Schluchim and guests celebrated the banquet of the Kinus with pride and commitment to the Rebbe. Rabbi Moshe Kotlarksy recalled the first Kinus when Rabbi Sholom Posner asked each of us to introduce ourselves which became as time went on the famous roll call. For some like myself who has watched the evolution of the Kinus from a small group to the powerhouse it was a special moment of Chassideshe Nachas.

That moment of joy was shattered later that night by a group that has made violence and terror their symbol. When many of the Shluchim returned to 770 to farbreng. Some members of the Kvutza from Tzefas tried to interfere with the Farbrengen, the Shluchim continued ignoring them. Finally they attacked those who have spent decades as the Rebbe’s Shluchim. Throwing benches, sidurim and using fists. They broke the leg of a Baal Mesrias Nefesh who went recently to the remote country of Vietnam to spread Yiddiskiet.
