30 Bochurim Robbed in Brazen Dorm Burglary

CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — Today, Tuesday afternoon at about 2:45pm a Black man posing a janitor managed to steal over $5,000 worth of valuables from the Oholei Torah dorm. The man casually walked into the dorm, through the front door and started roaming the hallways.

Op-Ed: Enough Already!!!

The disputed elections have taken place, and it remains to be seen what will be on June 3rd. If the plaintiffs drop their claim, then these are the people we will live with for the next three years.

What’s particularly disturbing to me in all this are not the disagreements but the vitriol with which they’ve come to be expressed. The comments made on community websites, particularly CrownHeights.Info have been especially nauseating. The wisdom of posting them aside, the feelings revealed by these postings are irrational to the point of borderline dangerous.

Rabbi Osdoba has been vilified in the most vile terms. Therefore I feel a need to express my opinion.

CTeeN’s Memorial Day Weekend with Chabad

Hi there. My name is Jacob and I would like to tell you what I did this past Memorial day weekend. On Sunday, I joined 75 fellow high school students for a fun filled day in New York City with the most amazing Rabbis I’ve ever met. The trip was arranged by CTeen- the Chabad network of teens worldwide- as part of their annual “feeling Jewish in the city”.

Chabad Center Brings Together Jews in Doral

By Yudy Pineiro for the Miami Herald

Rabbi Avrohom Brashevitzky pulls back the Parochet that covers the Ark and holds the Torah at Chabad of Doral.

DORAL, FL — When Rabbi Avrohom Brashevitzky established the Chabad Jewish Center of Doral, he only knew one Jew in Doral and hosted services in private homes.

Three years later, the congregation has grown to about 40 active members and occupies a two-floor space in a shopping center at 9725 NW 41st St.

A Couple of Volunteers

By Dvora Lakein for Lubavitch.com

Michael Corwin and Julie Ames with Tzvi and Sheva Tauby, co-directors of Ivolunteer.

NEW YORK, NY — He met Sheva and her husband over a traditional Shabbat dinner on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. By the time dessert was cleared, Sheva had a hunch that Michael Corwin, 29, was a perfect match for Julie Ames, a fellow volunteer. Though he had never dated someone through a matchmaker, and later admits that he only followed through “to be agreeable,” Corwin and Ames are now engaged. Sheva, he says, was on the mark.

Important Halakhic Tome Published by Kehot

Kehot Publication Society, the Lubavitch publishing house, has announced the publication of an important halakhic text: She’erit Yehuda, by Rabbi Yehuda Leib of Yanovitch, brother of the founder of Chabad Lubavitch—Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi.

The Chabad Chasidic movement is, perhaps, more known for its advancement of the study of Chasidic philosophy and the Chasidic way of life, than its innovations in the field Jewish law and custom. Indeed, R. Schneur Zalman is known not only as the author of Tanya (the written Torah of Chasidism) but as the author of the Shulchan Aruch. To many of his contemporaries and in successive generations, he is known simply as “the Rav.”

As his right hand man and associate in all matters of leadership and scholarship, esoteric to the exoteric, as architect helping to shape the structure of the Chabad movement and as chief editor of his brother’s works–R Yehuda Leib had strong influence on the direction and form the fledgling Chabad Lubavitch movement would take.

THE REAL CROWN HEIGHTS ELECTION RESULTS

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Sunday night we reported the election tally, but that was hardly a reflection of the real outcome of the elections. Monday afternoon and Today, Tuesday the new Vaad began their tenure by taking control of the Community Council and Vaad Hakohol Offices by force, in a massive display of Chilul Hashem, and the opposite of which these bodies are to represent.

Both parties clashed in a spar of verbal assaults and the removal of people from the offices by force. Property was damaged and windows were broken, as members of the opposing factions tried to change locks while others attempted to hold possession of the premises.
