Bochur Held Up At Gun Point

Yesterday [Tuesday] a Bochur on his way home at around 9:00pm, was walking down Montgomery St. coming from Kingston Ave. where 2 black men, around the ages of 20-21, came up to him and one of them grabbed his arm and the other pulled out a silver gun and pointed it at his chest. The perps waited to hold him up till they were shielded from a clear view from the street, which was behind a large van.

The Bochur who had gotten so scared, he just pushed the one holding onto him and then pushed the gun wielding perp and started to scream at the top of his lungs, effectively scaring them off. The Bochur then called the police who took 7 minutes to respond and couldn’t find the perps. He then filed a police report.

CrownHeights.info has learned that the police have 2 more complaints against 2 perps with this exact description and weapon, they have been involved in a robbery at one of the local public schools yesterday and another stickup on the street on the other side of Eastern Pkwy. just 45 minutes after the attempt on the Bochur.

If C”V you get held up please don’t be smart, give up the money it’s not worth a life. But you must call Shomrim immediately so they can try and apprehend the perps. The number is (718) 774-3333.

Kugel Unraveled

For many American Jews, kugel is the taste of childhood. They want exactly the kind of kugel their mother made, whether it is a weekly Sabbath treat or served only on holidays like Rosh Hashana, which starts on Monday night.

I didn’t know until recently, though, that this homey casserole of noodles or potatoes was credited with mystical powers.

Tailor Strands Customers, Skips Town

As some of you know there is a tailor that worked on Lefferts Ave. on the corner of New York Ave. next door to the Mosdos Day Care Center, well he seems to have skipped town.

One of our readers emailed me telling me that he went there earlier this week to pick up some things he left there and found the place closed and what seems like for renovations so he went and asked around as to what has happened to him and how to get his cloths back.

Apparently he skipped town and moved [or went] to Georgia stranding all his customers with out their cloths.

His Cell phone number is (917) 683-1104. Call him and best of luck to anyone who has clothing by him.

UPDATE:
I managed to speak to this tailor [I didn’t even get his name] and he told me that he moved to Georgia but still needs to move all his stuff from here, so he will be here for about 2 weeks starting this coming Monday Sep. 26 and everyone will be able to get their goods from him.

Stop The Discrimination Now
Against American Jews in Israel

The American Daily
By Ariel Natan Pasko

The United States government is violating a group of US citizens’ civil rights and it has to stop. They want to throw a whole ethnic group out of their homes, and restrict where they can or can’t live. Sounds racist doesn’t it?

The White House, State Department and other agencies, right under the noses of us all, without a peep by us, are pursuing a deliberate policy of ethnic/religious “cleansing”. They haven’t started for real yet, but the plans are in the making. Who could possibly stand for this discriminatory behavior on the part of the American government against its own citizens in the year 2005? A class action suit demanding an injunction to stop these law-breaking plans needs to be filed in the courts.

As Hate Crimes Escalates

The 2 reported incidents in the past week, slashing of the Hatzalah ambulances tires and the assault on the 50 year old man on Carroll and Schenectady, there was a meeting about all this with the local councilmen at the CHJCC on Kingston Ave. where we heard that we will get increased patrols and more security.

Now COL reported that Chanina Sperlin got a call from Mayor Bloomberg asking to be kept informed and that the police will take all necessary measures to capture these law beakers.

Mayor of New York Promises to Punish Lawbreakers

As a result of the recent rise in crime and damage done to residents of Crown Heights, Mayor Michael Bloomberg of New York called Rabbi Chanina Sperlin, member of the Crown Heights Community Council yesterday, telling him that he ordered the police to take all necessary measures to locate the lawbreakers. The mayor also asked Sperlin to update date him as to ongoing developments and gave him the number of this cellular phone for this purpose.

But what’s really enraging is the fact that yesterday the NYPD “distributed” 1,500 police officers to the various precincts around New York City, and out of the 1,500 officers we only got SIX!!! Now that would scare them off, the 2 extra patrols we will get, and the police are really doing everything they can, which can’t be much.

Two Hours In Times Square

The Jewish Press

Within sight of the glass-walled MTV studios where teenage girls usually jump and down waiting for the members of their favorite boy bands, Avraham Fried was performing. The sun shone brightly off the skyscrapers, metal and glass reflecting the light and heat like mirrors as Fried effortlessly danced back and forth. The youngsters who had come from their camps, the boys in orange and the girls in pink, repeated the song after him. Gush Katif, you are not alone. A black bicycle messenger rode by and flashed two fingers in a V — for victory and/or peace.

Orange was everywhere. Orange bracelets, orange t-shirts, orange buttons, even orange pants. One woman had dyed her dark hair bright orange. Girls tore strips from orange cloth and handed them out to people. Soon they were flapping as armbands, bandanas, headbands and neckties and wrapped around pony tails. The strips of orange cloth were passed hand to hand. Above them waved the green and yellow banners brought by Chabad. Poster boards were taken out and hand-lettered signs made. The crowds drifted in, filling up the area as the police continued to set up new barriers to accommodate the overflow.

Today’s Rally in Pictures

A massive crowd gathered on Manhattans Broadway between 40Th and 41St Street, at 12 o’clock in the afternoon the NYPD shut down 2 lanes of this very busy street for this gathering, which in its own was a very big statement. Then later on as more and more people gathered the police ended up shutting down even more lanes.

An estimate of more then 2000 people gathered for the rally on this hot Tuesday, Camps Gan Menchem, Camp F.R.E.E. and LeMaan Achai attended on the boy’s side and Bais Rivka day camp and Bais Chaya Mushka day camp attended on the girls side. Cold water and ices were distributed to the campers throughout the rally.

The demonstration was timed to coincide with similar protests against Israel’s planned withdrawal from Gaza in Paris, Melbourne, London and Amsterdam, according to organizers.

At the rally in Midtown, the stage was shared by young kids saying the twelve Pesukim, singer Avraham Fried belting out lines like “Gush Katif – You are not alone!” and New York State Assemblyman, Dov Hikind, who reminded the crowd, “Hashem is watching us.”

The rally was organized and arranged by Tzivos Hashem.

A few dozen women of Crown Heights participated in a farbreingen arranged by Mrs. Chani Farkash in her home. Rabbi Groner stressed the role of women as the ‘Akeres Habayis’ (main constructive force in the home), and her role at designing and maintaining the Jewish home. Rabbi Groner integrated his speech with stories from the Rebbe’s sichos etc. Crown Heights’ women anticipate a future follow up of similar sessions dealing with the role of the Chassidic women in their homes.

Fallen astronaut’s diary recovered

Experts piece together notebook used by Israeli during Columbia mission

The Associated Press
Updated: 6:45 p.m. ET Feb. 26, 2005

NEW ORLEANS – A small heap of paper that survived the fiery
disintegration of space shuttle Columbia, a 38-mile fall to Earth and
two months of exposure to rain and sun in a Texas field has been
painstakingly restored by forensic scientists, yielding the flight
diary and notes of Israeli astronaut Ilan Ramon.

Scientists used computer image-enhancement technology and infrared
light to read the charred and tattered pages and pieced some of them
together like jigsaw puzzles.

Not everything could be deciphered. But Sharon Brown, the Israeli
police document examiner who pieced the material together, said she was
amazed that the metal-ring cardboard-bound notebook had even survived.
