Few if any archaeological finds in the past century have elicited the interest or controversy that has surrounded the Dead Sea Scrolls. With that in mind, Jewish residents of Manchester, England, sat down to learn more about the scrolls, and what they can and cannot tell researchers, from one of the world’s leading scholars on the topic, New York University professor Lawrence H. Schiffman.

Reminder: Don’t Forget To Make An Eruv Tavshilin
It is forbidden on a holiday to do any act in preparation for the following day,1 even if the following day is Shabbat. However, the sages created a halachic device, called an eruv tavshilin, which allows one to cook food on a holiday day for use on a Shabbat that immediately follows it.

Siyum HaShas at 79!
CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — After nineteen long years of taking it one “Amud” at a time, “Zaidy” Wilansky, 78, celebrated the commendable undertaking of learning the entire Shas in depth.
On Sunday afternoon, the Kolel Tiferes Zekenim met in 770 for a Siyum in honor of Reb Yehoshua Wilansky’s completion of the Shas. “This is something that does not happen very often,” said his 23-year-old grandson, Eli Wilansky. The Siyum was dedicated to Wilansky’s mother, Sara bas Yehoshua, whose Yahrtzeit was on the 23rd of Iyar.
I moved to Crown Heights five years ago after me and my wife (from out of town) got married. We loved it here. I work, Daven and shop in Crown Heights. I am your typical “survivor” or simple guy, one that works hard to cover my basic expenses. I'm young, full of energy and already have a small family. I feel that were ever I live I should help, care, give back and create a better community. (I currently volunteer in two local organizations.)
But recently I began to ask myself WHY?
Op-Ed: It’s 3AM… Can you outdo negative with positive?
I can’t sleep, I’m tossing and turning, my mind is racing with all sorts of crazy thoughts. I’m frustrated, upset, and my head is beginning to spin.

What’s particularly disturbing to me in all this are not the disagreements but the vitriol with which they’ve come to be expressed. The comments made on community websites, particularly CrownHeights.Info have been especially nauseating. The wisdom of posting them aside, the feelings revealed by these postings are irrational to the point of borderline dangerous.
Rabbi Osdoba has been vilified in the most vile terms. Therefore I feel a need to express my opinion.
Op-Ed: Enough Already!!!
The disputed elections have taken place, and it remains to be seen what will be on June 3rd. If the plaintiffs drop their claim, then these are the people we will live with for the next three years.

CTeeN’s Memorial Day Weekend with Chabad
Hi there. My name is Jacob and I would like to tell you what I did this past Memorial day weekend. On Sunday, I joined 75 fellow high school students for a fun filled day in New York City with the most amazing Rabbis I’ve ever met. The trip was arranged by CTeen- the Chabad network of teens worldwide- as part of their annual “feeling Jewish in the city”.
