TODAY: Shomrim Distributing Vegetables and Dairy Products

Building on its two year tradition, Shomrim has once again organized a free distribution of essential Pesach foods, from vegetables to fruits, dairy products and many items in between.

Throughout the evening yesterday, Wednesday, hundreds of families benefited, and Shomrim has managed to secure another two truckloads of items today. The distribution will resume today, Thursday, at 6:00pm in the parking lot of Beis Rivkah Lefferts [entrance from East New York and Brooklyn].

There is no need to be on any lists or have any vouchers, everyone is welcome to come and take whatever they feel they need. There is B”H no shortage of all the items.

Call him the Jewish Scott Brown.

David Greenfield swept a special election for the 44th District seat on the New York City Council in a landslide victory Tuesday. He soundly defeated fellow Democrat Joe Lazar, taking the seat by a margin of 58 to 40 percent. Kenneth Rice, a Republican, took just three percent of the vote.

They want to legalize medical marijuana as a way to generate nearly $15 million in licensing fees to help plug the state’s $9 billion budget gap.

Halichos Olam is a program for seventh grade boys of Oholei Torah and United Lubavitch Yeshiva of Crown Street to encourage and guide them in the study of Hilichos Tefillin. Seventh grade is the year when most boys begin wearing Tefillin two months before their Bar Mitzvah. It was established by the Igud Menahalei Yeshivos of Crown Heights in the goal to expand the knowledge of Halacha and Yiras Shamayim of the talmidim of our community. The boys study Hilchos Tefillin from the sefer “Shvach Yokor” authored by Rabbi Shmuel Hurwitz.

This past friday Devorah and FBI Director Robert Meuller in at FBI HQ in Washington DC

The New York Division has selected Devorah Halberstam to receive the Director’s Community Leadership Award.

On March 1, 1994, Devorah Halberstam’s 16-year-old son, Ari Halberstam, was murdered by Rashid Baz on the Brooklyn Bridge. Grief and fury over her beloved elder son’s murder transformed Ms. Halberstam into an activist against terrorism.
