Man Who Coined Term “Chabad House” Passed Away

Boruch (Dave) Berenson OBM, from the first mekuravim of Chabad in California, passed away today. He is credited for coining the term “Chabad House,” on reference to Chabad-Lubavitch outreach centers. He was also a survivor of the infamous Westwood Chabad fire, which prompted the creation of the Chabad Telethon. He was very beloved to many of the original Chabad Shluchim’s children (many today shluchim themselves) for driving them to school for many, many years.

With great sadness we inform you of the passing of Harav HaChossid Rabbi Sholom Dovber Goldshmid, OBM, of Crown Heights, 86. Reb Sholom Dovber survived the Chevron Massacre in 1929. Arriving in New York, he opened a butcher shop in Crown Heights and was zoche to be the one supplying the Rebbe’s household with meat. He was also zoche to drive the Rebbe home from 770 many times until his marriage in 1951.
