Robbery Ends with Police Shootout, Residents Panic
CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — A group of three thugs attempted to rob a checks cashing on Bedford Avenue, prompting a wild police chase which culminated on Montgomery Street with the robbers exchanging gunfire with police officers.
The incident began at around 11:30pm at the 24 hour check cashing store on Bedford Avenue and Montgomery Street, where three perpetrators attempted to rob the store and fled in a vehicle.
An unmarked police car arrived at the scene within seconds and began pursuing the suspects, who fled down Montgomery St. Eyewitnesses and surveillance video show cops attempted to stop the fleeing car between New York and Brooklyn, with cops shouting at them to get out of the car. The suspects did not comply.
The sound of crunching metal followed and deafening explosions of shooting erupted.
The chase ended at the intersection of Brooklyn and Montgomery, where police managed to corner the suspects after shooting out one of their tires. The suspects bailed out of their car and attempted to flee on foot.
Police apprehended one of the suspects inside the bullet riddled car, and another on Crown Street between Kingston and Brooklyn. A third suspect managed to get away.
One firearm was recovered from the disabled car.
One police officer, who had discharged his weapon, was transported to Kings County Hospital for ringing in his ears, and one of the suspects was taken as well to be treated for injuries he suffered during the pursuit. No one was hurt from gunfire.

No worries. He’ll be out in a week and back to work. Thank G-d!

Never would have expected that in New York. The shavrtzes are such model citizens!

it’s all reagan’s fault
I heard the helicopters
we live in a freakin’ war zone. It’s only thanks to G-d and the Rebbe looking after us that we survive this madness.
omg
OMG!
its a matter of time
I was in 2 shoot outs already. The first one, the gunman was firing the gun 20feet away from me…the only thing between us was the car i was ducking under. Its only a matter of time before people get shot at. i hear gun shots all the time. my friend was shot at during the day once on kingston and carrol (long time ago) we live in a very bad war zone.

there is yellow crime tape in front of my house. This morning the street is still closed off (no school buses). We can’t get the car out to go to work.
Main thing anyone could have been walking in the street and gotten hurt. B”H no one got hurt. The entire block was out looking for bullets and bullet casings last night. Scary that one of the guys is still not found. He is running around CH with a loaded gun.
Only Lubavitch
Lubavitchers have to be the ONLY people in the world that put up with and wouldn’t move out and away, far away, from crazyness like this.
Chelm Heights is for sure the most appropiate name.
Upstate
Who is for starting a Lubavitch village upstate??
joseph
to upstate. its in the making.
Village fan
Upstate is a great idea! Its also less stressful living there! And nice views and fresh air :)

Crazy, stubborn people, you wouldn’t move any where from golden medina. Sad very sad, until you all be shot or worse, חס וחלילה
Same exact Jews was in Egypt, history repeats …. It seems like you all never learn Torah :-) good luck with gun shots.
They Got Two out of Three
and as the song goes . . . 2 out of 3 ain’t bad.

where is there no shooting? In Israel living between Jews is shooting. Here a few goyim were shooting at each other and you want to run where? How about the Rebbe saying not to move out of CH?
From this you see that shooting, and no Yid was hurt = kan tziva Hashem ess habrocha.

#13: Would that everyone was as “crazy” in that they’d listen to the Rebbe. He said, back in the late ’60s (when things were at least as bad as now, if not worse) that it is wrong to abandon a Jewish neighborhood.
#19: same thing. Also, before you accuse others of “never learn[ing] Torah,” I’d suggest that you pick up Likkutei Sichos vol. 6, and learn the section from pp. 350-356, where the Rebbe goes into great detail on the various halachic and meta-halachic reasons why a Jewish neighborhood – in or out of Eretz Yisrael – should be preserved as such.

Unfortunate AA Crown Heights is not a Jewish neighborhood it is a neighborhood in which Jews have a small section.

Ha look at the babies running away. WHats a few shots here and there? ye think its better elswhere?
For the record though – you can leave to upstate – while we get wimpy snow and flakes….see how you adjust to two feet weekly snow events.
To number 4
Sorry, but, we all expect that here. you should not be surprised

i was walking to school this morning and i had to go through NY avenue because the whole brooklyn avenue was blocked off!

# 5, You are completely wrong. It is the fault of the libeal Democratic administration who believes that criminals have more rights then the victims, the liberal judges in New York who do not throw the criminals behind bars and throw away the key, the Mayor who believes that people do not have a right to have guns to defend themselves. Nor shoauld we forget that how many times it took like forever for the police to arrive even when there was a major crime including shooting. Crown Heights has become unsafe for anyone to live there. This is the new vision of the reality of living in New York.
taking the good for the bad :)
for those of you who r moving out let me know im looking for an apt to rent

I used to work for a Rabbi who used to call me that all the time, never realizing that this Shavrtze spoke not only Yiddish, but of course German as well. I eventually told him. He immediately yelled out to his son Yanko and told him not to call me that any longer, saying “He understands”. Still, I’m not angry or surprised. But to refer to “all” as shavrtzes is a little insensitive. No?
Jewish dude
Every Jew in ny city must have a gun for self protection. Do not listen to Bloomberg or the police they are so far out of reality they will never come back to it. Shabat shalom.
Voice of reason
What this city does not need is a bunch of hysterical untrained people with guns inserting themselves into a potentially deadly situation. That is a recipe for disaster that would take more lives than it would save.
hypocrite jew
next week you jews will get a parking ticket and be pissed of at the cops again LOSERS!!!!

To #19 exactly that happened in 1930’s and what we had? A shooting happens every where you go, but better be in the “shooting” where you defend something, then just … for no reason. Of course it’s always easier to relay to Rebbe, then make a move. I haven’t had chance to read Sichoths, but I am sure that there is support as well for Lech Lecha :-)

Thank goodness, no one was seriously injured, except for
ringing of the ears.
There has to be a way to prevent this for taking place.
An innocent person, just walking by, could be shot and that
would be terrible.
NYPD did a good job in this case.
