Chief Rabbi of Central Jerusalem Conceptualized the ‘Chitas’
It’s a small rectangle, the size of a box of baking soda, but it revolutionized the world of Torah study. Known as a “Chitas”, it is a book that combines Chumash, Tehillim and Tanya. The compendium, which is almost as thick as it is wide, was the brainchild of Rabbi Zev Dov Slonim of Jerusalem, who passed away on Jan. 1 at the age of 83.
Jewish Names Among Most Popular NYC Baby Names
As the year 2017 came to a close, the New York City Health Department released vital statistics for births over the previous year. Rounding out the list of most popular names, they included five Jewish girls’ names and four boys’ names. The city also saw an overall decline in the birthrate.
