Over summer break, more than 135,000 parents, alumni, educators and supporters of private education in New York submitted comments to the State Education Department expressing opposition to the proposed “substantial equivalency” regulations and urging that they be withdrawn. The State Education Department is required by law to review and respond to each of the comments submitted.

After devastating the northern Bahamas with a fury unprecedented in this Caribbean nation’s history, Hurricane Dorian is bearing down on the eastern coast of the United States with winds in excess of 110 miles per hour. The hurricane, one of the strongest on record in the Atlantic, has killed five people, leveling homes and flooding neighborhoods on the more remote Abaco Islands in the northern Bahamas. A religious female security guard for the Prime Minister’s Office made news earlier this week, after she was spotted securing Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s meeting with Ethiopian Premier Abiy Ahmed in Jerusalem.
