Frankfurters Recalled for Highest Level Of Health Risk

ALBANY, N.Y. — Agriprocessors, Inc., issued a voluntary Class I recall on about 2,700 pounds of frankfurters – the highest classification given to consumer recalls, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced Tuesday.

The company is recalling two-pound vacuum-packed packages labeled ‘Supreme Kosher Family Pack Classic Frankfurters made with Beef & Chicken,’ and one-pound packages of ‘Supreme Kosher, Classic Frankfurters made with Beef & Chicken.

The products were recalled after an Agriprocessors employee discovered possible underprocessing.

Chabad Lubavitch Of Riverdale Celebrates Its 15th Anniversary

Riverdale, NY — Over 300 friends and supporters gathered this past, Saturday evening January 20 th, for a gala evening of dinner, entertainment, and tribute, celebrating the 15 th anniversary of Chabad-Lubavitch of Riverdale. The evening’s theme, planting a tree and yielding fruit, was carried through in the appropriate ambience of the New York Botanical Garden. The guests of honor were Dr. Daniel & Tova Kaplan, Avi & Julie Feinberg, and Mr. Sam Harbanoff.

Daniel and Tova Kaplan, the Guests of Honor, were honored for their support and commitment to Chabad, and their selfless commitment to the welfare of the greater Jewish community.

“Why did you kill your grandmother?” That’s what Professor Ruth Wisse said to an Arab student at Stanford who asked her, “Why is Israel an apartheid state?” The student was flummoxed and tried again, “Why is Israel an apartheid state?” Wisse again responded, “Come on now, tell us why you killed your grandmother.” A few more rounds of this and the student relented.

According to the Chabad Rabbi who invited Harvard’s Wisse to speak, Wisse then explained how some questions are not questions at all, but weapons: If she would have answered his anti-Israel accusation, she would have been trapped, and done damage to her cause.

U of Penn Students visit the White House

A select group of students from the University of Pennsylvania accompanied by their Shliach Rabbi Levi Haskelevich visited the White House’s west wing with one of the Penn alumni David Copley (staff member of the Office of Management and Budget at the White House).

The students dined at Eli’s Restaurant for lunch and then headed off to the Chabad House of American Friends of Lubavitch in DC headed by Rabbi Levi Shemtov. At the Chabad House, Rabbi Bentzi Sudak welcomed them and explained the function American Friends of Lubavitch serve. Rabbi Menachem Schmidt, Shliach to Philadelphia and senior shliach at U of P, introduced another Penn Alumnus, Mr. Ron Dermer. Ron is the current Israeli Minister for Economic Affairs in Washington and co-authored, the best-selling book, “The Case For Democracy” with Natan Sharansky.

Shomrim Recover Stolen Vehicle Using OnStar

Sunday evening in the heart of Boro Park a car-jacking took place on 45th St. between 17th and 18th Avenues. A slim built male Black ran up to the car and pointed a gun at the driver and ordered him to exit the vehicle and fled with it.

The Boro Park Shomrim Division responded to the call along with numerous Police Officers from the 66th Precinct and began canvassing the area for the car, a 2007 Black GMC Envoy. All the other Shomrim Divisions including Flatbush, Crown Heights and Williamsburg were notified and requested to assist in the canvas. Police had issued a Level One Mobilization as well, notifying the surrounding Precincts of the incident.

Farbrengen in honor of the Baba Sali’s Yohrtzeit – Myrtle Beach, SC

The Israeli community of Myrtle Beach gathered together tonight to Farbreng in honor of the Hilula of the Baba Sali.

The Farbrengen started with stories of the Baba Sali, and continued with a description of the connection between the Baba Sali and the Rebbe. The Farbrengen started after Maariv and continued for a couple of hours.

The Farbrengen counted with the participation of the Shluchim, members of the community (even those who normally don’t attend Farbrengens), and the Yeshiva Bochurim.

Rabbi S.Z. Wilschanski Spends Shabbos with Yeshiva of Tucson

The Bochurim out in the desert of Arizona were recently treated to a delightful and uplifting Shabbos.

Shabbos Parshas V’oera Rosh Chodesh Shevat the Rosh Yeshiva of TTL Morristown spent shabbos with his son Rabbi Betzalel Wilschanski and the students of the Yeshiva High School of Tucson Arizona.

After weeks of intense preparation for the upcoming Yoma D’pagra – Yud Shevat it was fitting that the temimim were able to participate in an awe inspiring weekend together with an individual who had many personal encounters with the rebbe and a Z’chus to be Mechanech many Talmidim over the years.

Siyum and Hachnosas Safer Torah in Memory of R. Efraim Fishel Brafman OBM

On Tuesday, January 9th a Siyum & Hachnosas Sefer Torah took place at 4515 Alton Dr. in Miami Beach, Florida in Memory of R. Efraim Fishel Brafman on the occasion of his first Yohrtziet.

Friends and family gathered to fill in the final letters and complete the Torah under the supervision of the Sofer R. Moshe Klein. The crowed then gathered at the corner of West Ave. and 12th St. and proceeded with music and dancing to the Yeshiva Gedolah-Lubavitch where they continued with Hakafos and a Seudas Mitzvah.
