Center City has a New Holiday Tradition

Philadelphia, PA — They lined up early along the Ben Franklin Parkway. Each car was fitted with their own menorah in honor of Philadelphia’s first annual Hanukkah Parade.

Parade Watcher Dov Leis remarked “it’s fantastic, it’s fantastic.”

Saturday is the second day of Hanukkah, a Jewish holiday which celebrates the miracle of oil.

Jews mark Hanukkah as a festive triumph of the spirit

Hadassah Backman remembers her first public menorah lighting nearly 10 years ago.

As she stood in the throngs of people crowded into New York City’s Central Park, she could feel their differences melt away under the menorah’s soft glow.

Mountain View, CA – Menorah Vandalized

For the first time in Mountain View, California’s history an 8 foot Menorah had been erected in front of the City Hall. It was erected Friday afternoon by the local Shliach, and when they came to light it the second night they were shocked to find that someone had vandalized the Menorah. All the bulbs had been broken and the electric cable had been torn.

The Menorah has since been repaired and they will be going ahead with the plans to have a grand Menorah lighting tonight. And in response the Shliach said that next year they plan to have a 15 foot menorah!
