CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — The streets of Crown Heights were bursting with action, men women and children from around the world have gathered for “Tishrei in the Rebbe’s Court”.

While sometimes the extra load of people can be burdensome; extra long lines in our local stores, extra pushing and shoving in 770, over flowing usage of the Mikva’s, to name a few. As a member of the orthodox Chabad sect of Brooklyn, Salita (28-0-1, 16 KOs) is bound by rules that most people in the boxing world would consider “distractions.” Because of his religious beliefs Salita is required to take time out from his training to perform ritual prayers three times a day and must eat strictly kosher food, even when he’s on the road.

The toughest of these rules – at least for a boxer — is the Sabbath which is the Jewish day of rest running from sundown Friday through sundown Saturday. Salita cannot train or fight within that time frame, and must also refrain from boxing on as many as 70 Jewish holidays.

“Seeking Perfection” A New Torah Study from JLI

Last week, at more than 180 Chabad Houses worldwide, thousands of Jewish adults began JLI’s Torah Studies new Parsha series on Sefer Bereishis, entitled “Seeking Perfection.” Based on the Rebbe’s insights, Torah Studies takes the weekly Parsha Shiur to a new level.

Florida Faith-Based Council Now Served by Two Chabad-Lubavitch Rabbis

With his appointment of a northwestern Florida rabbi to the state’s Faith-Based and Community-Based Advisory Council, Gov. Charlie Crist has insured the presence of two Chabad-Lubavitch emissaries on the inter-governmental policy council until at least 2011.

Crist named Rabbi Schneur Zalman Oirechman, co-director of Chabad-Lubavitch of the Panhandle, to the faith-based body for a term expiring in 2012. Oirechman will join Rabbi Sholom Ciment, co-director of Chabad-Lubavitch of Greater Boynton Beach, who was appointed to the council by former Gov. Jeb Bush and was reappointed last year by the Florida State Senate to a term expiring in 2011.
