We are offering the community a crash course on CPR and First Aid that will teach quick-action, life-saving skills and techniques. The course will cover the proper steps for administering emergency CPR, what to do for choking victims of all ages and the basics of first aid for many common emergencies. The program will also provide a question-and-answer session. The goal is to equip as many people as possible with the knowledge and skills to do what must be done when every second counts.

It is with sadness and deep pain we inform you of the tragic and extremely untimely passing of a young Shliach, Meir Shlomo (Shloima'le) Zaltzman OBM, at the mere age of 7-months-old, son of Rabbi Mendel and Chanie (nee Matusof) Zaltzman who are the directors of the JRCC of Yonge & Clark in Toronto, Canada.

Shloima'le is the grandchild of Rabbi Yoseph Y. and Chiena Zaltzman, who are the directors of the Jewish Russian Community Center of Toronto.

The Marines stood solemnly in a small auditorium at Al Asad Air Base in Iraq. Rows of hardened faces stared ahead as the national anthem played and a slide show flashed images of happier times - and lives cut short.

“For those that have lost a loved one, Dear L-rd, please be everything that they can no longer be,” said the chaplain.

At that moment, two years ago, the war stopped for these Marines. It was for a rare chance to grieve. But it was just a moment. The Marines wiped their tears, got up and went back to work.

Votes Everyone Agrees On!

CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — Lubavicher Yeshiva students showed off their talent this evening in a spectacular exhibition on “what can I do to bring Moshiach now?”

Tens of students drew posters, built projects, created slideshows and even performed live shows all on this theme. The EXPO is part of a 6 week long campaign on “what can I do to bring Moshiach now?” in which students need to collect coupons on this same theme. The coupons, or at least some of them, have letters of a special message that the students need to put together, other coupons have surprises such as free drinks and Ices.

Alternate side parking (street cleaning) regulations are suspended on Monday, May 25 for the observance of Memorial Day. Because Memorial Day is a major legal holiday, parking meter regulations are also suspended. On major legal holidays, stopping, standing, and parking are permitted, except in areas where stopping, standing, and parking rules are in effect 7 days a week (for example, “No Standing Anytime”).

Let me begin by saying that I have no doubt as to the sincere motivation of all who are serving in community posts today. That includes the rabbonim as well as the netzigim, gabboyim and vaad hakohol, Shomrim and Shmira etc.

However, something is just not working in Crown Heights. I have not lived there in some time, but even when I left, the beauty and kedusha of Kan Tziva Hashem es haBrocho, of the Rebbe’s Dalet Amos, was obscured by physical decline that mirrored the societal and spiritual decline which is sadly gaining a greater and greater foothold in Crown Heights.

We are beset by problems of children going off the derech, of adults who are barely hanging on physically as well as spiritually, of rising crime, and of a general atmosphere of decline. Then there is the problem of tznius which deserves separate mention, though sadly it is a problem throughout Chabad and not only in Crown Heights.
