S. BRUNSWICK, NJ [CHI] – A new torah was welcomed this past Sunday to the Chabad Jewish Center of South Bruswick. The torah was dedicated in memory of Reb Yisroel Halevi Duchman, and in honor of his wife Rebbetzin Rochel Duchman, by the Duchman Family.

A New Torah to Make the Spirit Grow

MELBOURNE, Australia [CHI] — Melbourne’s new wholistic growth center, Spiritgrow, celebrated its ‘coming of age’ when it held its first Siyum Sefer Torah’ this past Sunday. Over 250 people crowded the soothing contours of the Spiritgrow building, after a colorful procession led by a retinue of drums and bongos from Caulfield Park along Balaclava Rd.

NEW YORK (Reuters) — Yuri Foreman has been working towards becoming a rabbi and a boxing champion and is closing in on both targets.

The 28-year-old, a native Belarussian and Brooklynite by way of Israel, is a year and a half from earning a degree in rabbinical studies and one fight away from his childhood dream of winning a world title.

GIFFNOCK, Scotland [CHI] — Supporters of the ‘Shul in the Park’ mounted their bikes and together rode a total of 20 miles, starting out from Giffnock, and on through Fenwick Moors than back through Eaglesham. The ride was to raise funds for the youth events in the Shul at the Park.

Rabbi Shaul and his wife Rosie (nee Duchman) Pearlstein of Crown Heights will IYH be moving out on Shlichus to Chattanooga, Tennessee where they will take on the duties as Shluchim and local Rabbi in the city.

The new Shluchim were brought out by Rabbi Levi Klein of Chabad Lubavitch of Tennessee.

Chattanooga is the fourth-largest city in Tennessee and counts over 3,000 local jews.

Chaya Mushka Ashkenazi, who passed away June 17 at Tel Hashomer Hospital in Tel Aviv, was the daughter of Rabbi Chaim Eliezer and Rochel Ashkenazi, Chabad-Lubavitch emissaries in Bangkok, Thailand, since 2000. She was 7.

According to friends of the family, it was almost one year ago to the day that the Ashkenazis, who helped coordinate activities for all of Thailand's five Chabad Houses, travelled back home to Israel for a wedding. Her parents wanted to give the girl and her five siblings a chance to spend quality time with their extended family in Kfar Chabad and Jerusalem, but not long after the wedding, Chaya Mushka complained of extreme headaches and of not feeling well in general. Tests revealed the worst.

Oholei Torah Classmates Reunite After 20 Years

CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — Gimmel Tammuz is typically a time where all Chabad Chasidim go to the Rebbe’s Ohel and along the way many Lubavitchers will see others they haven’t seen in some time, however for one group of friends seeing each other on Gimmel Tammuz wasn’t something that was going to happen by accident or fortuitously, it was a long prior planned reunion of the 8th grade Oholei Torah of the year 5748/1988.
