ISRAEL — Bank of Israel Governor Stanley Fischer on Monday called on the heads of the ultra-Orthodox sector in Israel to promote employment among Haredi men and women in order to minimize the prevalent poverty among them.

During a conference for the ultra-Orthodox community in Jerusalem, Fischer said that the low employment rate among the Haredi men and women was the root cause of for the high incidence of poverty, higher than any other sector in Israeli society, including the notoriously poor Arab sector.

Tragic Accident Claims the Life of Flatbush Yeshiva Student

WOODRIDGE, NY [CHI] — A tragic one-vehicle accident upstate New York left one Bochur dead, and a seriously injured passenger after the driver apparently fell asleep at the wheel. The incident took place on Route 58, Glen Wild Road near Woodridge in Sullivan County, right across from the Skvere Camp Beis Yitzchok.

Yeshiva World News reported that the Niftar is 19-year-old Yeshaya Dovid Eckstein OBM who lived on 8th Street in the Kensington section of Brooklyn.

Businesses come and go, and some predicted the demise of the SHUK the minute Kol Tuv opened Empire Kosher? After all, can our community actually support two large kosher supermarkets? (I believe it can, but that depends on you, read on…)

As a close personal friend of Shloimie for over 20 years, I have been following this issue long before it became a “sensation” and certainly before the beautiful stories posted by various individuals,

We find ourselves in the three weeks, and as such, comments posted with regards to why people ask for credit, who gives them the right, who is a bigger ball tzedokah, etc, all have no place, nor virtue in this discussion.

This past Shabbos Parshas Matos-Masei marked the 14th Yarzeit of Rabbi Dovid Wichnin A"H. Rabbi Wichnin was the founding Rov of K'hal Tzemach Tzedek Lubavitch of Monsey and the Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshiva Tiferes Bachurim in Morristown, New Jersey until his untimely passing in 1996.

Rabbi Wichnin, an exceptional Talmid Chochom, was a beloved leader and a father figure to many and earned the respect of many of the Rabbonim and Admorim in Monsey.

LACKAWAXEN TWP, PA [CHI] — Last week Wednesday, July 15th a camp employee was found dead on camp grounds, and a police investigation determined it to be a homicide, and are seeking two other camp employees as suspects.

The incident took place in “Camp Chayolei Hamelech” located in rural Lackawaxen Township, Pennsylvania, the only part of this that is more troubling then the story itself was that parents only found out about the incident on Friday when the campers called home for their Good Shabbos calls.

DES MOINES, IA — Prosecutors have added wire and mail fraud charges to the slew of allegations against former Agriprocessors executive Sholom Rubashkin, according to a seventh federal indictment filed today.

The new, 163-count indictment adds nine mail-fraud charges to the allegations against Rubashkin, and 14 counts of wire fraud.
