The NYPD is instructing cops to log serial numbers from suspects' phones.

NEW YORK — The NYPD is amassing a database of cell phone users, instructing cops to log serial numbers from suspects' phones in hopes of connecting them to past or future crimes.

In the era of disposable, anonymous cell phones, the file could be a treasure-trove for detectives investigating drug rings and other criminal enterprises, police sources say.

The World Boxing Association (WBA) has announced that Junior welterweight stalwart, Dmitriy Salita, an observant Jew, is to fight for the WBA light-welterweight title in December. Unbeaten Salita is to fight Amir Khan for the title. Khan is an English-born Muslim who won a silver medal at the 2004 Olympics.

VANCOUVER — The new year just got a whole lot sweeter for the Jewish community of British Columbia.

On September 30th, the Canadian government bequeathed $633,333 from the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund to Lubavitch BC. A matching grant was provided by the Province of British Columbia. Both hinge on Chabad’s ability to raise an additional $633,333, equaling a grand total of $1.8 million. In the three days since the announcement, Chabad has raised $300,000.

WILLIAMSBURG — A thief stole the fancy holiday hat off a Hasidic man’s head on Friday night, October 2nd, the first night of Sukkos.

The victim was walking from Shul at around 9:30pm and was near Wallabout Street and Throop Avenue when two young men approached him from behind. One of them lifted the man’s shtreimel, a fur hat with a $1,200 price tag, then both ran off.
