BROOKLYN, NY [CHI] — On Monday, December 14, in celebration of Chanukah, the Jewish festival of lights, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, with the help of Mehmet Samsar, consul general of Turkey in New York City and New York State Senator Daniel Squadron, presided over the lighting of Brooklyn’s official 29-foot menorah in front of the Supreme Court building in Columbus Park/Borough Hall Plaza. The ceremony was led by Rabbi Aaron L. Raskin of Congregation B’nai Avraham, and holiday refreshments were provided.

Amid bitterly cold temperatures, two young Jewish rabbis lit a Menorah in front of the Great Falls Civic Center Monday evening, marking the start of the fourth day of Hanukkah.

Rabbi Yankie Shemtov of Tucson, Ariz., told eight hardy Jewish souls that the ceremony in Great Falls, at 9 degrees below zero, marked the coldest lighting of a Menorah in the United States on Monday.

Over 80 Cars in Monsey’s Menora Parade!

MONSEY, NY [CHI] — Over 80 vehicles joined the Chabad Lubavitch of Greater Monsey annual Menorah Parade on Sunday night, the 3rd night of Chanuka. The parade, which was organized by K’hal Tzemach Tzedek Lubavitch of Monsey and Yeshivas Menachem Mendel Lubavitch of Monsey, departed from K’hal Tzemach Tzedek and was led by fire trucks from the Monsey and Spring Valley Fire Departments.

Chanukah Mivtzoim for all!

A new initiative for Chanukah spearheaded by the Igud Avreichim of Crown Heights aims to get families and individuals to go out on Chanukah Mivtzoim. “Thousands of Jewish families living within a half hour of Crown Heights, in Brooklyn and Manhattan, will celebrate Chanukah this year with visits from Lubavitch families like yours.”

1000 Attend 12th Annual Chanukah on the River

S. ANTONIO, TX [CHI] — Over 500 people rode 12 boats adorned with Menorahs for a Chanukah Cruise at the 12th Annual Chanukah on the River celebration in Downtown S. Antonio on Sunday, the third night of Chanukah. They then joined another 500 people waiting at the outdoor Arneson River Theatre for a menorah lighting and concert with The 8th Day led by the Marcus brothers, a Jewish rock band from LA.
