This year again the West Hempstead community experienced much joy and excitement, as the Chabad of West Hempstead fire engine screeched its Chanukah sirens throughout the neighborhood. This was the start of the 7th annual Chabad community Chanukah celebration.

Car Door Vs Fire Truck in front of 770

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] – A fire truck severely damaged the door of a car after it was opened into it. The incident happened in front of 770 when a car parked in the ‘no standing’ zone opened its door after half the truck passed it by, causing it to get snagged on the truck and damaged.

Chief Rabbi of Israel lit Tel Aviv City Menorah

Tel Aviv, Israel [CHI] — Forty Public Menorahs were placed across the city of Tel Aviv, by the Chabad Center of Tel Aviv, headed by Chief Shliach Rabbi Yosef Garlitzki, in order to bring the light of Chanukah to all the Jews in the city.

Menorah Made out of Donated Food Lit on NYU Campus

New York, NY [CHI] -– The Chabad Serving NYU, the Bronfman Center for Jewish Life, and Arts on the Move all came together to organize a momentous event where they could combine the holiday of Chanukah, art, and acts of kindness to spread light onto the campus. After a month of collecting cans all over NYU, students will finally saw the culmination of all their efforts last night, Tuesday, December 15, 2009, by the Washington Square Arch. A massive Menorah was built utilizing the cans collected from over hundreds of students. The success of the food-drive relied primarily on the actions of the student body as a whole rather than a few individual leaders, thus portraying the uniqueness as well as the unity of this campus.

Chabad of Atlantic City, NJ Presents Successful Chanukah Event For Kids Dec. 13 at Shore Mall. Rabbi Avrohom Rapoport and members of Chabad of Atlantic City had a terrific turnout on a rainy gray Sunday December 13 as they delivered magic, menorahs and Maccabee miracles at the Shore Mall shopping center near the NJ resort. Dozens of area children and their parents braved the drizzly weather to share and participate in an entertaining magic show, light the giant menorah, hear the story of the Chanukah miracle and, last but not least, enjoy some tasty sufganiyot.

Chabad Presents President of Uruguay with Menorah

On Monday, December 7, the President of the Republic, Dr. Tabaré Vázquez, received a delegation of Chabad of Uruguay with regard to the proximity of the holiday of Chanukah. Rabbi Eliezer Shemtov handed the President a beautiful menorah, symbol of the triumph of light over darkness. “Every night she lights a larger quantity of candles,” said the Rabbi. “This teaches that one should never settle for his spiritual attainments.” The President expressed appreciation for the gesture and the accompanying message and said that will not only brighten your office, but also his heart.
