More than 450 people attended an April 29 reception at the Lubavitch Centre of Toronto to hear Rabbi Ephraim Simon of Teaneck, N.J., detail his thoughts and experiences in donating his kidney to a man he never met.

Inspired by the story of an American rabbi who gave one of his kidneys to an ailing man he never met, Toronto’s Jewish community has rallied behind a fellow member desperately in need of a transplant.

With sadness we inform you of the passing of Rabbi Schneor Zalman Yehoshuah Light, the oldest Chossid, and member of Kolel Tiferes Levi Yitzchok, at the age of 98.

Reb Schneor Zalman lived in Crown Heights in his later years after moving from Toronto. He is survived by his children, Shmuel Light (Crown Heights), Brenda Eber (Crown Heights), Gitty Weingarten (Crown Heights), Rivka Rappaport (Toronto, Canada), and Berl Light (Fairlawn, NJ).

The Levaya will be leaving from the Shomrei Hadas Chapel at 12:45pm and passing by 770 at around 1:30pm.

Hundreds turned out Monday evening in support for Keren Simchas Chosson V’Kallah’s fifth annual Ice Cream Social and Bakeoff, in which over 70 unique creations were displayed, admired, and then auctioned off, with all the proceeds going to KSCVK.
