Sholom Mordechai Pleads: Help Eliyahu Ezagui

“I feel the pain, but unfortunately I do not have the means to help. Please open your hearts and pockets.”

Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin wrote a letter from prison, pleading with the public to help Eliyahu Ezagui. Mr Ezagui, who allegedly committed mortgage fraud, is under house arrest and faces 15 years in Federal prison.

Merkos Shlichus: Shabbos in Zhmerynka

ZHMERYNKA, Ukrain — In every place on Merkos Shlichus, one of the best things to do, is to make a get-together of all the local Jews. This we did, in Zhmerynka, Ukraine. It was last Friday, where we stood for hours in a tiny kitchen in the local Shule cooking food, with the meager kosher ingredients available in this part of the world. We were told to cook for, “Fertzig menschen” (“Forty people”), and thus we pealed 10lbs of potatoes (and did much more).

Avremel Shemtov Visits Monroe Satmar Rebbe

Rabbi Avrohom Shemtov of Agudas Chassidei Chabad, Rabbi Levi Shemtov of Washington and Rabbi Pesach Burston of Monroe.

On Motzaei Shabbos (28 Tammuz), at 12 midnight, Rabbi Avrohom Shemtov came to be menachem avel the Satmar Rebbe in Monroe. Rabbi Shemtov was accompanied by his son Rabbi Levi Shemtov, of Washington, and Rabbi Pesach Burston, director of Chabad of Orange County who lives in Monroe.

Napoleon Bonaparte was passing through the Jewish quarter in Paris when he stopped to investigate the strange cries and laments emanating from the local synagogue. His curiosity had peaked when he was informed that it was the Ninth of Av and that he was listening to the Jewish people wail over the destruction of their Holy Temple in Jerusalem. “When did this thing happen?” probed the inquisitive Emperor. “Some 1700 years ago,” came the nonchalant reply. Upon hearing this Napoleon remarked in a tone of awe and conviction: “A people who refuse to forget their past, are destined to forever have a future.”
