Wounded Soldiers Arrive in NYC

This past Tuesday night, four hundred members of Chabad Israel Center of the Upper East Side’s community, joined ten IDF soldiers on a grand two hour cruise along the Hudson river. The cruise was an opportunity for the community to meet and thank ten hero’s of Am Yisrael in a fun, relaxing and enjoyable setting while enjoying music, great food, open bar, and a variety of entertainment booths.

Local Spelling Bee Champ Knocked out of National Contest

Miriam Habibi hugs her son David Habibi after he won the 22nd annual Regional Spelling Bee held March 9, 2010, at the Myrtle Beach High School Music and Art Center in Myrtle Beach. The 11-year-old fifth-grader from The Chabad Academy represented the Grand Strand in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.

David Habibi of Chabad Academy spelled both of his words correctly in the second and third rounds of the Scripps National Spelling Bee, but the fifth-grader failed to make it to the semifinals of the contest in Washington, D.C.

She is survived by her sons Berel Malchowsky, and Eliyahu Malachowsky, and daughter Mrs. Doba Levin of Crown Heights.

The Levaya will take place today, and will be leaving from the Shomrei Hadas Chapels at 2:00pm and passing by 770 at around 2:30pm.

With sadness we inform you of the passing of Mrs. Sara Junik OBM (82) of Montreal, wife of Meir Yechezkel Junik OBM.

She was the daughter of R’ Shmuel Notik, of whom the Rebbe Rashab said, “He is one of my true chassidim”. She was imprisoned at the age of 17 years for several years together with her parents, because of her father’s Rabbinical position. She married R’ Meir Junik, who passed away 6 months ago, who was also imprisoned for 9 long years due to his Yiddishkeit. She remained behind the Iron Curtain where she married and raised her children to the highest levels of Chasidishkeit.

Over the past 3 months, the school has collected new, and new-condition items that people have lying in their closets, but have no use for. Unopened sets of china, pots and pans in their original packaging, beautiful housewares and clothing some still sporting original tags were donated to Bnos Chomesh in anticipation of their sale.
