Recently I took a trip with my nieces and nephews to visit my parents, their grandparents. The kids are two, four, and six years old, which means their enrollment in the Crown Heights school systems has varied from one year to three years, to none. They are sweet children, reminding me of all that is pure and good, and of complete naivety. On this trip, they also reminded me of something else.

A short-lived but severe thunderstorm just passed through Crown Heights, knocking down a large tree branch under which an unlucky resident parked his/her vehicle. The mishap occurred on Crown St. between Brooklyn and New York Ave. The fallen branch has completely blocked off the road, causing police to divert traffic to other streets.

Lubavitcher entrepreneur Eli Posner lives in Nashua, New Hampshire along with his business partner Mendel Mangel. This afternoon a fire broke out and ravaged their apartment, destroying most of what’s inside and overwhelming the town’s firefighters. In an interview with a local newspaper, Eli credits the fact that he and his friend escaped unharmed to the Mezuzahs affixed to the doors of their apartment.
