A CrownHeights.info photographer roamed the mostly-deserted streets of New York City on Monday, capturing scenes of Hurricane Sandy’s carnage from around Crown Heights, the Brooklyn Bridge, Red Hook and the Verrazano Bridge.
Despite earlier reports, Crown Heights’ schools will mostly remain open today, Tuesday, due to the fact that the bad weather has subsided.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo‘s office tonight confirmed at least five storm-related deaths in New York. The first of which was a 30-year-old man in Flushing, Queens.
Some of the city’s lower elements took advantage of the chaos caused by Hurricane Sandy and used it as a cover to commit crimes.
NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg said that the NYC 911 system received 10,000 calls per half hour on Monday night. A quick math suggests that this is 333.3 calls per minute, which in turn means 5.5 calls per second!
