New York State Governer Andrew Cuomo announced that summer day camps in areas in phase 2 will be allowed to open in New York State starting at the end of June. Overnight camps are still waiting in limbo for an answer from the state on whether they may open for the summer of 2020.
The Curfew in New York City which has been put in place due to violent protests and looting has been extended through Sunday, June 7th. Councilman Chaim Deutsch released a statement Tuesday clarifying that religious observances will be exempted, including Mikvah and davening.
A Kriah in the courtyard of 770 became the center of a scuffle Monday afternoon, after “terrorist” bochurim took affront at the location of the bima. The bima had been placed by “the Rebbe’s place,” and the bochurim felt that this was grounds for violence.
As thousands of protesters passed by 770 Monday night, Crown Heights Shomrim was on hand working alongside the NYPD to ensure that the protest route remained clear, and that it passed through the community without incident.
After another night of riots and looting, New York City has set another curfew for Tuesday night, in the hopes of damping down rioting that spanned three boroughs. Tuesday nights curfew will begin at 8:00pm, three hours earlier than Monday nights curfew.
