KIEV, Ukraine — Chabad-Lubavitch Rabbi Azriel Chaikin, chief rabbi of Ukraine, accused government and law enforcement officials of failing to prevent a rash of anti-Semitic attacks in the city, JTA reported on its Web site Wednesday.

He made the charges in a letter just days after an unidentified man broke a window of the town’s historic synagogue during afternoon prayers. The man fled the scene and remains on the loose.

In July, Rabbi Shlomo Wilhelm, chief rabbi of Zhitomir, was attacked outside of his synagogue on the same day that a group of youth tried to break into a girls’ dormitory at a Chabad-Lubavitch Jewish school in the city.

HAMILTON, Canada — Embarrassing as it is to admit, when I first met my father-in-law, Rabbi Zalman Itkin, of blessed memory ñ co-director along with my dear mother-in-law, may she live and be well, Rebbetzin Faigie Itkin, of Chabad-Lubavitch of Hamilton, Canada ñ I was less than impressed. A nice guy, sure; well regarded by all, with a good word and a joke at the ready for everyone he met. People liked him, but was he a success?

Yeshiva of Rock

Mordechai Shinefield – Forward

Four years ago, I received a burned CD copy of an unreleased album. Hastily written on the disc in black marker was the band’s name, The Marcus Brothers. The CD contained an album-worth of explicitly Orthodox rock. It was something of an underground Chabad secret, the group’s core members two real-life brothers, one of them a Lubavitcher emissary in California.
