Fort Lauderdale, FL — Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum gave a Fort Lauderdale condo association until 5 p.m. today to change a policy that prohibited display of a Jewish symbol outside the door of a unit.

Earlier this year, the Port Condo Association told tenant Laurie Richter to remove the mezuzah she had attached to her doorframe. The association told her that she was in violation of its policy that forbids residents from placing anything on the exterior of common property.

Two Aspiring Rabbis Visit Santa Cruz to Celebrate Passover

Santa Cruz Sentinel

Santa Cruz, CA — In what he calls his Jewish first-aid kit, Pinchas Taylor, 22, carries the essentials for wishing people a happy Passover this week.

He hits the streets of downtown with his kit swung over his shoulder, wearing a black fedora and matching sport coat, and randomly asks people, “Are you Jewish?”

Some say “no,” and the aspiring rabbi keeps walking down Pacific Avenue. Others ask him for spare change, and he opens up his wallet before he continues his search for Jewish people.

State Set to Install Rt. 17 Median Barriers

Times Herald-Record

Orange County, NY — A state contractor is set to begin installing a metal barrier in the middle of Route 17 next month to prevent cars from crossing the grassy median and colliding with oncoming traffic.

The Department of Transportation had planned to do the work in 2009 but moved up its schedule after a spate of deadly crossover crashes, including one in October in Chester that killed a young New York City couple and left their 10-month-old daughter an orphan.

Passover Comes to Low

by Anastasia Gornick and David Xia – Columbia Daily Spectator

New York, NY — While some students burned the midnight oil in Butler Library on Monday night, many others burned ceremonial candles, kicking off the weeklong Jewish holiday of Passover with traditional seders.

The Chabad Resource Center hosted a seder-a traditional meal during which participants pray, eat ceremonial food, and retell the story of the Jews fleeing from slavery in Egypt-in Low Library Rotunda last night for approximately 70 Columbia students and their guests.

Rabbi Yonah Blum led the seder, which had to be moved from its usual location in the Chabad Center on 113th Street because of the large number of students attending.
