At Statue of Liberty, Jews Embrace Their Heritage

Stories of Jewish immigrants throwing their tefillin overboard upon encountering the freedom and promise of life in the United States may be the stuff of legend, but for Mendel Aisenbach, a Chabad-Lubavitch Chasid from the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn, N.Y., such tales emphasize an important point: When they approached the Statue of Liberty, many of the tired and poor masses from across Europe – a good portion of them Jewish – pushed their identities to recesses deep inside in the quest to become Americans.

His First Mezuzah – Mivtzoim in Yehupitzvil

You thought Yehupitz was a mythical place. It isn’t. It’s in Hastings, Minnesota, a twenty minute drive from the Yeshiva High School of the Twin Cities in Cottage Grove, Minnesota. As Yehupitz’s go, this one doesn’t have many if any Jews. And out of this Yehupitz came Deke, a Coffee shop owner whose Jewish name is Chaim Branchaud-Linsk, a Jew from North Minneapolis.

Mivtziom Encounter in LA: A Bar Mitzvah at the age of 86!

LOS ANGELES, CA [CHI] — For weeks Hatmimim Zalman Dubinsky and Nisson Friedman, students in Yeshivas Ohr Elchanan Chabad in Los Angeles, would go into a furniture store and drop off a weekly L’chaim pamphlet by the elderly man, in his mid-to-late eighties, by the desk. “The man you’re looking for is not here” he said every week. “I’ll give it to the owner” he says making sure to show that he wouldn’t read it.

First Chanukah Car Menorah Parade in Vancouver

VANCOUVER, Canada [CHI] — For the first time ever, there was a ‘Chanukah Car Menorah Parade’ in Vancouver. There were about 30 cars driving through the freezing streets, doing Mivtzoim. There was a local TV network following the cars and reporting on the parade and Mivtzoim, making a great kiddush Lubavitch and a huge Persum of Chanukah. Yeshivah at The Ohel Lit Up LI & Queens

Once again, The Yeshiva by The Ohel HaKadosh organized Mivtza Chanukah with a “bang”, this time with uniquely-designed “Chanukah Mitzva Tanks”, helping many Shluchim in Long Island and Queens with their Chanukah celebrations and Menorah lightings.

Sukkos Mivtzoim in Illinois

CHICAGO, IL [CHI] — In honor of Sukkos this year there were three Sukka mobiles that went on Mivtzoim on the 3 days of Chol Hamoed. Bochurim woke early in the morning, Davened, had a quick breakfast and then set out for a full day of Mivtzoim in the different areas through out the state of Illinois covering shopping malls, busy street corners, visiting Chabad Houses and bringing JKewish pride through out the state.

In Ravaged Gori Jewish New Year Began On A High Note

GORI, Georgia [CHI] — Tensions continue to flare up between Georgia and Russia, with Gori still a city in shambles where many wait in refugee camps for Red Cross food drop-offs, and bombed houses color the landscape.

All the more reason for Georgia’s Chabad-Lubavitch representatives in Tbilisi, Rabbi Meir and Tzipora Kozlovsky, to arrange for rabbinical students to come to Gori and its neighboring towns and cities, so that the area’s Jews would have the opportunity to get the Jewish New Year off to a good start, with the kind of Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur services that would inspire and uplift them.

Bar Mitzvah at 101 Years Old!

MORRISTOWN, NJ [CHI] — This past week on Friday Mivtzoim the T’mimim Levi Kaye and Chaim Rosenstien finally managed to convinced Mr. Pinchus (Paul) Greenberg to put on tefilin for the very first time! Pinchus is 101 years old and is currently living at the “Care One” Old Age Home in Morristown, N.J.

Hundreds Don Tefillin at Israel Day Parade

NEW YORK, NY [CHI] — Sunday, close to a million Jews from the Tri State Area took part in the annual Salute to Israel parade in Manhattan. This event has been dubbed as the “biggest Jewish event of the year”, There was a record high attendance this year.

Fifth Avenue was closed off to traffic to allow tens of thousands of children from Jewish schools march in an expression of Jewish pride.
