Two Girls Assaulted in a Building on Montgomery St

The entrance to 742 Montgomery St.

742 Montgomery St, a building that brings back horrible memories for a woman in her 50’s and to a newly married couple who lived there. This evening two more girls can (Loi Aloinu) say the same.

At around 6:00pm two Jewish girls were attacked on the third floor of 742 Montgomery St by two Black males. The girls were approached from behind and were both grabbed by the perpetrators. Both immediately began screaming which apparently scared the perps off, by the time residents opened their doors all they saw was the perps backs fleeing down the stairs.

Yud Tes Kislev

Intro: 1. On the day after the festival of Succos in the year 1798 the first Chabad Rebbe was arrested in White Russia. The first Chabad Rebbe, who was called the Alter Rebbe, was officially charged with treason against the Russian government. The Alter Rebbe was jailed in the capital city of Petersburg.

There was a camp of religious Jews who were against Chassidus, especially Chabad Chassidus, and they went and informed the Russian government that the Alter Rebbe was collecting money for the Turkish government. The Turkish government at that time was also the ruling power over Eretz Yisroel (Israel). Really the Alter Rebbe was collecting money for the Torah scholars who had moved to Eretz Yirsoel who didn’t have money to live. The camp of Jews that were against Chassidus being revealed and spread throughout the world were hoping that by imprisoning the Alter Rebbe they would be stopping the Chassidic movement.

Reaching for Light

Salt Lake Tribune
Rabbi Benny Zippel of Chabad Lubavitch of Utah lights a community menorah in the ZCMI Center mall to begin the first night of the Jewish celebration of Hanukkah in 2000.

Public display of menorahs – meant to share a holiday message – has ignited both pride and controversy

Salt Lake City, UT — Last year in Brighton, England, the menorah was made out of pastries. Here in the United States, some of the more creative building materials have included chocolate, Legos and hard candy. Others have simply been gigantic, wowing with size rather than ingredients.

A Chat with the Hamden Shliach

Hamden Daily News

Hamden, CT — Rabbi Menachem Piekarski is a serious man and a delightfully passionate storyteller, and believer. He is the rabbi for the Chabad of Hamden, a national movement that’s part synagogue, part academia. The Hassidic Jewish man, who grew up in Brooklyn, N.Y., runs services and classes out of his 17 Park St. home. Every moment of his life is Judaism.

The Piekarskis and their five children, 5-13, wrap themselves in religious rituals, prayers and intellectual discussion. The kids are avid readers. The parents are loving and firm. They choose not to be a mainstream American family. The Rabbi, as I call him, adheres to the strictest Jewish doctrine. First instance, in accordance to his interpretation of biblical scripture, family members are not allowed to touch the opposite sex, except among siblings, parents, grandparents and spouses. The Rabbi’s son may not hug or even shake the hand of his aunt.
