St. Petersburg, Russia — A Russian Jew has been stabbed to death in northern St. Petersburg, members of the city’s Jewish community told Ynetnews.

Dimitri Nikoulinsky, 22, was found dead with knife wounds to his throat by his mother minutes after the assault, his friend said.

Two members of the Jewish community said the attack was “exactly” like other lethal assaults carried out by neo-Nazi groups against foreign students and an anti-fascist activist, and are convinced that the attack was a hate-crime.

St. Petersburg, Russia — A Russian Jew has been stabbed to death in northern St. Petersburg, members of the city’s Jewish community told Ynetnews.

Yekaterinburg, Russia — The governor of the Sverdlovsk region Edward Rossel met with the heads of religious organizations in the region. Those participating included: Yekaterinburg's archbishop Vikentii, the region's mufti Sibgattula Hajji, and the region's chief rabbi Zelig Ashkenazi. Participants thanked Rossel for the support of the religions throughout the Urals and for promoting the education regarding religious diversity. Rabbi Ashkenazi reminded others about the words of Russian President Vladimir Putin, which Putin previously wrote in a formal address: We need to “depend on the country's moral values,” which have formed over thousands of years, Ashkenazi repeated. Adding that the Urals are a place of many religions where people from different places live in peace and agreement.

1. Right in the beginning of this week’s Torah portion the Torah tells us that Hashem spoke to Moshe Rabbeinu (Moshe our teacher) on Har Sinai (Mount Sinai) and told him about the laws of the Shemitah year (the year of rest when you cannot work your land). As it says:

“Hashem spoke to Moshe on Mount Sinai saying. Speak to the children of Israel and say to them, when you come into the land which I give to you, the land shall be at rest- a Shabbos for Hashem. For six years you shall plant your field and for six years you shall prune your vineyard and you shall harvest its produce. But the seventh year shall be a Shabbos of rest for the land, a Shabbos for Hashem, you shall not plant your field and you shall not prune your vineyard…”.

Lag BaOmer Jewish Festival in Gaithersburg

Gaithersburg, MD — Excitement was at a high this past Sunday in Bohrer Park, Gaithersburg as over 300 people participated in a Jewish Festival celebrating the holiday of Lag B’Omer. The Jewish Festival was sponsored by Chabad of Upper Montgomery County and Chabad of Germantown in conjunction with several local synagogues and organizations, exemplifying the event’s logo, “Uniting our Local Jewish Community”. Also particapating in the festivities was a group of over 65 special need adults from The Jewish Foundation for Group Homes.

Another Accident on Montgomery and Brooklyn

Crown Heights, Brooklyn – An attempt to ‘beat’ the light ends in a dangerous crash in the intersection of Montgomery and Brooklyn. At around 8:45pm a black Lincoln Aviator traveling down Montgomery St attempted to beat the light as it was turning red and was struck by a silver Minivan.

Two men in the same town came into sudden wealth. They both decided to bury their treasure in their backyards. Each picked a landmark on their respective properties and paced 20 steps and dug a hole.

Chaim the more anxious of the two kept making sure that there was no one watching as he placed the treasure in the ground. Berel who was by nature more trusting, didn’t bother taking the same precautions. Unbeknownst to him, he was spotted by a dishonest neighbor who eventually stole the treasure.

Lag BaOmer in Sydney, Australia

Sydney, Australia — Starting the night of Lag BaOmer there was a big bonfire, complete with live music, BBQ, dancing and L’Chaim, and a Jumping castle for the Kids. During the day they had a childrens rally at the world famous Bondi Beach park, march of children complete with 5 floats on Trucks, down the busy Hall street, till the beautiful park near Mizrachi Shull where there was a childrens rally, complete with magic show, big raffle, and a full carnival with rides for the kids.
