Three Ukrainian Billionaires are Jewish

KIEV, Ukraine [JTA] — Three of the four billionaires from Ukraine are Jewish, according to the Forbes magazine annual billionaires list.

The highest ranking Jewish Ukrainian on the list, Victor Pinchuk, 48, a business tycoon and son-in-law of the former president of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma, slipped from 203 to 246.

Igor Kolomoysky, 47, a co-owner of the Privat business group with interests in metal and financial sectors also slipped, together with his business partner Gennady Bogolyubov, 47.

MOSCOW — At a meeting Wednesday with religious leaders in Russia, President Dmitri Medvedev promised to instruct his staff and heads of security regarding policies of foreign clergy in Russia.

“Government officials should not be interfering in religious life unless security concerns are involved,” said Medvedev at the meeting.

Rabbi in Costume Helps Bust Shul House Rocker

BROOKLYN, NY — Cops nabbed a man they’d wanted for repeatedly breaking into a Brooklyn Heights synagogue over the past few months, finally delivering the congregation from torment by the burglar — and it couldn’t have happened on a more auspicious day.

Rabbi Aaron Raskin, who heads congregation B’nai Avraham, was preparing for Purim, a holiday that celebrates another long-ago deliverance, on March 10, when police told him that they had cornered the suspect as he loitered on Henry Street, between Pierrepont and Clark streets.

Already in costume for his shul’s annual holiday festivities, Raskin hopped into the squad car and positively identified the suspect.

It all started when police received a call regarding someone unconscious inside 1677 President St, Apt 16, corner Utica Ave.

A New Art Creation by Artist Carl Braude

Artist Carl Braude of Austria has done it again. Braude is famous in Lubavitcher circles and beyond for painting the Rebbeim together, in many different variations. Along with the Rebbeim are depicted the Rebbe’s father- Rabbi Levi Yitzchok, The Razo, and Rabbi Meir Shlomo Yanovsky, the Rebbe’s maternal grandfather.

GURNEE, IL — It’s fine to put on a funky costume to celebrate Purim. In fact, it’s expected.

Pride in being Jewish is one of the messages of the two-day holiday. It’s also the joy of deliverance from annihilation in ancient Persia. Costumes and fun are traditional, said Beth Levine-Chaitman of Grayslake.
